  1. i used an 87 r200 lsd with the 82 280zxt cv's in my 240z and have had no problems
  2. i know this kinda sound dumb but when my 94 trans am was having a similar problem starting all it was was a bad battery. So maybe check and make sure you have a strong battery, these lt1 motors do not like to start with a bad battery. Another easy problem i had was spark plug wires, it gets very hot in the engine bay and the wires and even the couls just get so hot they break, well atleast on my TA. Hope this helps
  3. the problem with gutting it is that i can not get it open. I think there is a retaining clip or something on the back that needs a special tool and then maybe a new clip as well. But i maybe wrong about opening it up, i have been wrong before.
  4. I have searched and found a few people asking if you coud just loop the power steering lines, but no one has answered them. So i thought i would just ask. So can you just loop the low and high sides of the power steering pump with a little fluid and it would be enough to loob it or what. If no one has done it yet, i will try it as soon as my car is ready to run and let everyone know
  5. you guys are always alot of help, what i plan on doing it just puting the motor as is in and doing cam and heads that work great together after a few weeks of runnig. Again thanks for all the info Richard
  6. well i order the 12 pin connector that has the built in 12 power like Bartmans and i emailed the guys at tunner cat and they told me i only have to hook up 2 wires, seril data and a ground, so now i do not even need a female connter for it i can just add to wires. also the guys at tuner cat are great with emails, if anyone is having problems jsut email them.
  7. I just bought a 94 caprice engine that i plan on putting in to my 240z. My question is would it be better to upgrade the heads to stock alum ones from an f-body or corvette or should i just put in a new cam and keep the iron heads. What i am looking for is HP not torque because the Z is so light i do not need it. would the alum heads bolt on or is there something special about them.
  8. so can i just empty ou the PS fluid and leave it as a pully or should i put some PS fluit in it and loop the lines? Does the PS fluid help to loob the pulley?
  9. ok i just found this site and i tink i just answered one of my two questions. http://www.lencolab.com/ss/diagrams/impala_9495engine_3of3.pdf the OBD connetor only really needs 3 wires connected to it, serial data, ground, and output/field serv enbl. Just want to double check that im right. Also my other question, what cable should i buy from AKM?
  10. I just got a 1994 caprice lt1 with tranny and wiring harness for my 240z. I was looking thrugh the wiring harness and did not find a OBDI Connector. So that means i need to make one then. What i want to do is to tune the car using tunner cat. My question is what ecm wires do i use to make the OBDI Connector, also should i even make the OBDI Connector or should i do something else? I plan one useing one of the cables from AKM but what one should i use? I did search by the way but if for some reason i missed it i am very sorry. Any help would be great.
  11. your 97 trans am stock should put out about 285 hp, not 300+. the LS1's had 300+ HP but they were not put in to F-boys till 98
  12. so has anyone not used the caprice tail housing and had it work, because to me i just seems like it may be a little harder to run the exhaust. But it would say a few $$$ and save alot of time. From what I am hearing it will bolt in just a few inches closer to the front.
  13. I have done a lot of searching and found that the JTR kit is the one for me and my lt1 4l60e swap into my 73 240z. But the tranny mont has got me thinking, the JTR book says that i need to change the tranny tail to the Caprice one for the exhaust to fit. So i was thinking what if i used the Johns car tranny crossmember with the JTR motor monts would that work? Maybe i do not need to use the Caprice tail housing? If so i would just use the JTR tranny mont. Also how does the johns car tranny mont "bolt" in? I heard it uses some kinds of "nuts" but i do not understand that.
  14. well i plan on using the JTR crossmmber for my LT1 4l60e swap into my 1973 240z. I still can not believe it just monts to the floor, but if so many people use it its got to work. Any other ideas for a 4l60e crossmember besides the JTR one?
  15. I have a 1973 240z with a 280zxt motor right now and it needs a new head gasket and a clutch and i just dont like it and i want o put an LT1 in. Also because i also have a 1994 trans am and love that car. Pass lock needs to be turned off before the car will run i understand that. What i need to know is if i buy the tunner cat software and cable can i turn off the pass lock by giving power to the ECU and "tunning" off the pass-lock. I do not have to do anything special. I plan on using the JTR kit to mont the motor and trans the 4l60e. Will i have a problem with the A/c hitting the pass side frame, i plan on getting the a/c delete bracket from ebay latter but for the start will i have a problem. Has anyone used the stock camaro or firebird auto shifter. does it come up at the same spot or near where the stock Z shifter is. i have search and it is a wonderful tool, the only problem i have found is that most of the pics and web site links are dead now. So if anyone has some great pics or up to date websites of an LT1 in a 240z please please please post them as well
  16. thanks guys I took the old hose off, and i think it was from 1973 LOL. I also put more water in and made sure i topped it off. and finally i did a test and took the car up to 210 deg and no probs. thanks you very much By the way, where is the hottest part of the block, right now i am getting my reading from the back of the block where one of the heater hose things were. is the front of the block hotter or the back of the block?
  17. Inflated radiator hose I have a 1973 240Z with a 1982 208zxt motor in it with mega squirt and spark. I have just started to drive the car and found out that after I drive for like 10 mins and the temps get 190 Deg+ the upper radiator hose inflates. I am using the radiator that came in the 280zx but I do not think that should cause this. Also I just put a new radiator cap so that’s not the problem. What do you guys thing it maybe. Air in the system, blown head gasket, bad hose? Any help would be appreciated. And finally, WoW does 12 PSi feel good.
  18. the boost leak does not sound like our problem, more than likely its an electrical connection gone bad or you TPS. but to cheak for boost leaks all you need is a compressor two end caps of what ever size piping you have , i got mine from OSH for like 4$ the compressor fitting and a nut that fits the other side all you do put on cap on one end of your piping and the other cap with a compresor fitting installed to the other, then hook up the compressor for a few seconds and see if you can hear any leaks.
  19. I really need to upgrade my throttle body on my l28et. A while back i saw tons of 240sx throttle body kits on ebay, the ones with the spacer and the linkage changed for like 180$. But now there are none. Do you guys know of a web site i can buy a 240sx throttle body from or who was selling them on ebay. any help would be great, i hate the tiny stock throttle body i need the bigger one because i am redoing my intercooler piping and do not want to do it twice.
  20. Thank you guys very much, i have everything working now i had to go into the car1 folder then to settings and pick the correct wideband, i picked the one that said, 10-1 afr=1volt, 20-1 afr=2 volt and i found out why my dataloging was not working, i did not have excel installed on my old laptop so it did not know what to do with the file. also where in the megatune instructions does it talk about all the settings for EGO, and what they all do so i can have it auto tune
  21. I got my megasquirt and spark extra all hooked up and the car runs. It just needs to be tuned. I just bought a wideband with controller and gauge. So i know what my Air Fuel Ratio(AFR) is and thats good, but when i try and feed teh wideband input to the megasquirt all it does is read 4.8 AFR. Iknow that that is wrong. But i can go into the Read Time Display and get teh voltage teh wideband is feeding into the megasquirt and it is correct, the same as the gauge. What settings do i have to set up, i looked on the website and it said to set the EGO thing to 2.500 volts and set ti to wideband. I did that and it still does nothing, just stays at sround 4.8 AFR. I even tryed different numbers for teh EGO volts, like 5.000, 1.4700, .4000 etc. by the way i have an LC-1 wideband controller I really want the megasquirt to help me tune. also how do you guys datalog with the megasquirt, i tryed the one under files-datalog-record but it does not work
  22. I live in Santa Clarita, very Close to Six Flags. i am sorry but i do not have any time for any hands on help, finals are coming up and lots of work, so i will try to give you as much help online as i can. Wow your TPS is messing with your fuel pump relay. I m not sure where to start. You may have the TPS hooked up wrong. Good thing is your lds are flashing. Now does your car run at all, like with the v-8 map that comes with the unit. I am for sure no expert on the Megasquirt but i will try and help you as much as i can
  23. I think i maybe able to help you out, I am am done installing my unit and am starting to tune it. The problems i had installing it and haveing it connect with the ecu are First you have to use a real serial port, no USB to Serial, i have tried about 5 kinds and none of them work all the way, some wil let me see stuff but not let me upload anything. If you have a real serial port or something you think may work, what i did to make sure my unit was working was, connect 12 volts right off the battery through a 2 amp fuse (i used an inline fuse) to the 12 volt main power on the unit, then connect a ground to just about any were on the top row, then connect the serial cable to the unit and to the computer, the computer should read something if your unit is not broken also the leds shold come on or alteast flash. Also do you know if you have the right software, i had to have my budy help me out it was very confusing on what version to use. Hope everything works outs
  24. Are the 71 and 73 gas tanks the same. Also have any of you guys used the "sump" for the gas tank from Summit.
