  1. See my post in this thread: http://hybridz.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=38025 The T5 in the Turbo 280ZX is not that hot compared to 'modern' transmissions. I would suspect the KA tranny would be the strongest as it's also the most modern. However, I should have mentioned as the message below, it's probably not that strong either. You can get some really good information from the Mustang boards about the strength's of the various T5's used throughout it's production under Borg/Warner. The best option is to get a modern High Strength tranny, but that usually means your custom fitting the bell housing/shifter/clutch linkage/clutch fork and spending money on a custom drive shaft. These can be very expensive especially if you have no fabricating experience or access to it. Check out: http://www.angelfire.com/extreme/280zxt/page24.html Scroll down to the 'Tranny' section.
  2. Hey Cody! Any luck with those pics yet? How's your arm? Cheers, WW
  3. Jon, Thanks, I do have the Modifying your D/N OHC Engine and it's been very helpful. I did get the narrow band O2 sensor since that's the one the AutoMeter 2675 calls for. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the Innovative Motorsports LM series, PLX Devices or any of the other A/F tuning tools? http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/lm1.php http://www.plxdevices.com/onlinestore_domestic.htm
  4. I know this is an old topic, but no one mentions if they've installed this product or some other knock sensor timing retard device. I'm getting ready to make some dyno runs and want to start pushing my triple mikuni, intercooled blow thru turbo, MSD setup a little farther into the 'extreme' range and I definitely don't want to blow any head gaskets or burn holes in expensive pistons... Thanks, WW
  5. I want to install an Air/Fuel ratio meter but am looking for suggestions on the best method to install the sending unit. <Stupid Question Snipped> DOH! I've been reading so much AFM to MAF conversion stuff I got my head turned around. I apologize for wasting everyone's time. Obviously, the sensor measures the exhaust gas AFTER the combustion chamber! Cheers, Wade
  6. That's great. You don't happen to have any pictures do you? What year Mustang did you use as your source? Thanks Wade
  7. Hey guys, I already have a boost gauge on my a-pillar, but it's just screwed into the a-pillar trim. I'm looking for a little cleaner solution. I've got an A/F meter I want to install as well as a fuel pressure meter. I've seen the a-pillar 'pods' for the 90+ zx, 240sx, Honda's, etc. and was curious if anyone has found one of these that could be relatively easily modified to the 280zx a-pillar? As a last resort, Summit Racing has the 2-pod modules for the 300zx, 240sx, 350z and Maxima for $27.95. I hate to blow $150 on test 'samples' that could be better spent on more fun stuff... Thanks, WW

Thumper wrote: >Wrong. 81-83 na 5 spd is different than the 83 turbo 5spd. 81-82 turbos >only came with an automatic. Actually, the 81 Turbo was the only turbo that didn't have a manual option. The '82 & '83 Turbo's were available in 5-speed or Auto, but it's still unclear to me when the Borg/Warner T5 was implemented. It's on ALL the '83 Turbo 5-Speeds and I've seen it on several '82 Turbo 5-speeds (Mine included) but I've seen documentation that it wasn't used on the 280ZX until the '83 model year and the '82 Turbo 5-speeds originally used the Nissan tranny not the T5. It's hard to tell with all the junk yard diving and 'upgrading' that's gone on for the last 22 years. If anyone has conclusive proof of what's what with the T5, I'd be interested in seeing it. Bear in mind, NONE of the 280ZX T5's were the World Class version and aren't really designed to handle more than about 260 ft/lbs. Although, I know several that are holding up well with significantly more than this (Mine included). Knock on wood. In the event I do break it, I'll just have to break down and get that Tremec 3550! Cheers, Wade ---- ?'72? Desperately seeking a '72 to complete the collection... '82 ZXT 3.1L '82 NA 3.0L (Unfortunately, the rust monster got it...) '92 TT Stock ?'02? Looking for an '03 manufactured in '02!
  9. Well, After a lot of research, heart-ache, purchase of two incorrectly identified diffs and two months of concentrated searching, out of frustration I've finally dropped the dough on a Quaife assembly for my 12mm 3.9 R200. It was $1,299.00 + $15 S&H delivered from Bildon Motorsport in PA. Although they specialize in VW's they carry the full line of Quaife assemblies. http://www.bildon.com/catalog/drivetrain/ This was the cheapest place I could find. Virtually everyone else was selling them at full retail $1495, so the $200 I saved will pay for the rebuild/refresh on my R200. This should handle anything I can throw at it. Even though I've blown the budget straight to hell, after reading all the reviews, suggestions and desires from the forums of everyone that wanted a Quaife but had to settle for the clutch LSD due to financial constraints, it convinced me that since I'm FINALLY in a place in my life where I actually DO have the money, it was worth it. Does it increase the value of the car by $1500? I doubt it, but it's an enthusiasts ride for enthusiasts! And I'm comfortable that I can use this without fear of breaking it or wearing out clutch disks (not likely I know) but the psychology is as important as the reality! Cheers, WW
