Interesting. So James does this mean the Viscous diff is a direct bolt on if usng the AMC front shafts? Or the shafts needs modifing?

    Thanks in Advance,

  2. Hey Jon,

So your finally putting that rear end in. I remember someone saying you can use the r180 halfshafts but don't know for sure. If not you will need the 280Z halfshafts, direct bolt on. Also you will need the 280Z mustache bar Your rear diff is from a 83 280ZX and if you used the 280zx halfshaft you have to get them shorten.

Hey let me know if you need help putting that in. The recent one I put in was a pain in the a$$.

  3. That was a great story. Probably the funniest rice kill stories I've heard. I'm sure someone from this forum replied in that forum, good job pissing them off.

I doubt many people believe that story because of how many didn't replies to it. It seems like the people who did reply are easly amused. This guy must be pisted off at the ricers because if you look at his home page, he has a V6 Mustang with Mods but doing only low 15's. Low 15's, I would be getting smoked all day long.

I believe a Camaro can be that fast because I know someone who put a pumped up LT4 and if he smokes them on the freeway, he can't get traction until 120mph.

Hmm...that sounds pretty interesting, but, unfortunately, I can't find it on the splitsec page...all of the MAF kits that I'm finding on there are over $1k.

    Hi Bill,

    Try this http://www.splitsec.com/products/fcc1/fcc1ds.htm and http://www.splitsec.com/products/calibrators.htm and http://www.splitsec.com/products/arc1/arc1ds.htm

I saw the kits also that are $1k that's to much. The one I was looking at is the ARC1 its not $259, it's $269

    Hey Dave,

Sorry man I didn't know you were one of the Hybridz guy's when you introduced yourself right when I parked next to you. I eventually moved my car next to John (Jumbo240z). He lives a block away from me. Anyway your car would be a great sleeper, but your V8 badge is a big give away. Very nice setup you did. I think you were the only 280zx V8.

  6. Zcrazy,

On the drivers side there was no line to connect to so didn't connect that side. Currently is just hanging but hidden. The only problem is you need to make the straps slightly longer. Owen gave me his so I made it longer with the extra strap, cost me $10 to get it done.

Also it's easier to just swap your sender from the 240Z tank to the 280Z tank. Hope this helps

  7. Tony where were you? I didn't see you. I was at the hybridz spot. What happen to everyone else that was suppost to be by the hybridz spot. There was only John's car (jumbo240Z) & Dave's. I got to meet Owen, tim240z and jeffp but that's about it. No one else introduced them selves. Oh I met Mike Kelly also but he was some other spot.

  8. I agree on 75-76 may not be a real EFI tank on a modern sense but it's a lot better then the 240Z tank. When I was just low on fuel I hit turn and it suck a bunch of air. If I was boosting high I probably would have blown my motor.

I now have a 76 fuel tank that was very low on fuel and hit a turn hard with no problems. Also the fuel outlet line is bigger then the 240's outlet line. Also I had a hard time putting a -8 line, barely fit.

I'm glad it doesn't have a internal pump, it seem like a pain to swap pumps if it was internal.

  9. If your talking about road racing, you would want a motor that would give the car a good balance. Not only would you want a 50/50 weight dist. But also you don't want a motor that's NOT top heavy, for example a older V8. It may give the car a 50/50 balance but since the engine is top have you don't give the car it's full handling capabilities. But on the other hand aluminum V8 would give a Z the best balance for road racing.

I would also select a JSPEC 13BT because the how small and light it is. The RB would give the Z lots of power but it makes the front a little heavy and throws the balance off some. Now if you make the Z AWD then I would go for the RB =)

    Looks good Scotty

Anyone used this body kit along with flares? Any ideas on how you could make it look right? I really want to do flares in the back of my `72, but not sure it will look right.

    Not me :D

Scotty, Bill, Tony Your cars looks great. My car feels naked without a body kit.

Bill, don't put the rear spoiler. I think it looks cool the way it is. It may look like a ricer with the wing, but then it may not. I still think you should leave it out. Looks mean the way it is.

  11. Scotty... Sorry Bro if we kinda took over your post bonk.gif So what's the update with the turbo?

Bill... DSM (Eclipse) are good cars but that timing belt and the tranny seems to be one of the main weak point from what I've read. Good thing my timing belt was replaced recently.

Wow good deal on the Z potential high 12 / low 13 second car with suspension for $2500, that's really good. Well the parts your adding on... defiantly sounds like already a 11 sec car with the right hookup (traction).

Porsche Red huh... I have the same color on my car but it's 4 years old now. Color is faded but still looks decent. You'll like the color, I think if I repainted the car it would be the same color. I wanted to change it a nice white color, but the Porsche Red stands out on the Z's.

  12. I haven't called Majestic yet, but yea alway's start with low boost and work your way up.

Bill, Just curious what made you decide to sell your Eclipse. With the stuff you listed, that's a high 11 second car with street tires. I'd would have keep both, just curious are you going v8 or turbo charging with a l28et?

  13. Scotty, I agree on 980mak on keeping the boost low. 7psi is a little high. If you decide not to break it in, I would still change the oil at a 1,000 miles. Also very important, make sure you disconnect the coil wire and crank the motor a few times for 10 sec each time, so... oil will lube the bearings in the turbo and not spin dry when you start it up for the first time.

awd92gsx... I might have to disagree on this one... I also have a DSM and like you probably go to dsmtrader alot. I've been seeing lots of 16G turbo's forsale and notice some of them has low miles and needs a rebuild? For example there's one now for $300 that has only 7K and needs a rebuild. I talk to the guy and told me it needs new seals and has shaft play. 7K is too low to have these problems and I've seen a few of these post come and go.

I do remember a turbo dealer telling me to break my turbo in, this a long time go when I had my RX7 (Turbo). Didn't have to break it in long from what I remebered.

Anyway I think that's cool we have the same interest. I have a 90 GST (commuter car). When it was bone stock I did a 14.9 - slow but not bad for a stock car considering it's suppost to be 15.2. BTW I have a ported 02 manifold, Buchur 2.5" ss dp, 2.5" test, Bucher 3" catback, adjustable fpr and other small tweaks and the free mods - easy 300hp at the crank on these cars. Turbo is stock =( These car's have a lot of potiental, I wanna share to the Z guy's My 90 gst stock bottom end can handle 500hp+ at the wheel with out going internal. What sucks is a few of the 1990 parts are not interchangeable with the 92-94.

Is your setup intercooled and are you planning on turning up the boost?

I figure the most my system will ever hit would be 20 psi, although I'm plotting it out to max 18 psi with some "room." Its good to hear some more + feedback about majestic, I'll probably end up ordering from them. That's quite a reasonable price, cheaper than t'netics, or the chancey ones from ebay (no offense scotty, I think you got a good deal, I'm talking about numbers more than quality). Can't wait to get my setup done and filled in.

    -980mak rockon.gif

Oh I forgot to mention 5.5 psi only because I'm breaking in the turbo. It currently has less then 50 miles on it. I plan to turn up the boost after 1000 miles unless someone tells me I don't have to break in the turbo.

I have a NPR IC (smaller version, not like scottie GNZ.) I'm using 2.5" manderal bent pipes.

Also I'm waiting for my mercedes 420cc injectors from carparts so I have no worries when I do turn up the boost to 10-12 psi. Maybe higher depending if I'm not leaning out.

  15. Thanks Scotty for the complement.

980MAK... I don't remember exactly how much I paid, either $650 or $675? I just know I paid extra to make the wastegate hole bigger and put a bigger flap so I would get less boost creep or none.

So far I like the turbo a lot. It start's spooln pretty quick and is loud. It's louder then my stock turbo at 5.5 psi with my new turbo only at 0 PSI. I haven't gone over 5.5 psi yet so I couldn't tell you how it feels over all.

  16. Scotty nice lookn turbo. That thing is big. Make sure to start with the stock boost setting (5.5 psi) then slowly turn up the boost. I don't plan to turn up the boost until I have a 1000 miles on the turbo, I get that when I go to the MSA show. I'm not sure if your suppose to break in the turbo but just incase I'm going to leave it at stock boost.

Good Luck and let us know how it bolts up.
