240Z Chassis prep / reinforcements
Kurai replied to Kurai's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Good call no foam it is. You know its kinda crazy i dig all over the internet looking for answers to questions that are answered here very fast.....It seems alot of data on the S30 just isnt documented...or maybe im just searching for the wrong words/phrases. I've gotten more knowledge in this thread then in a month of searching the net. -

Lotta nice builds and data....thanks for the input. Have any of you guys out there played with the application of Polyurethane foam to stiff up the chassis, I have seen it discusses on some other cars very few actually employing it with first hand input but looks like a very effective tool to use here is a example from Autofoam......... http://www.autofoam.com.my/autofoam/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=23&Itemid=73 More data...... http://www.autofoam.com.my/autofoam/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=77 there is more data under the "Autofoam" tab at the top of the pages...but you get the idea. I may actually give something like this a shot in certain areas after i gain more structural data on the S30 chassis. What are your guys thoughts on this? -
I decided on just getting a 2JZ...really had nothing to do with one engine really being better but came down to cost really I have a old 7M and a 1JZ but both would need to be restored so after doing some pricing around I saw that for the same or more I can get a 2JZ that is ready to go. but you are right....what IK have wanted to do with this car has been changing like the wind the more I learn which I kinda expected. My goal for the car is to make it a weekend driver / occasional track car. I want it to have a decent ride when in normal driving conditions yet be fast top end wise on the open road....still thinking 500+ but dont want it to have a really long spool, or have a very harsh engagement once the power kicks in..or if it does in the slightly high RPM range without completely leaving no powerband to enjoy. Tall order i know think ill probably end up sacrificing the track peppinessto get what i want.

240Z Chassis prep / reinforcements
Kurai replied to Kurai's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Thanks!!! Yeah that is completely way off of what I was imagining lol. Also glad you mentioned that about the Sparco seats I have been hearing that the Z Seats are narrow (looking at a Corbeau set myself) and was wondering how I would tackle that issue but this seems to be a great solution. Hey but just to apologize to anyone I may off offended wasnt trying to piss anybody off or anything like that its just like johndaniel was saying I have very little knowledge on the S30 and am in Afghanistan hanging out for a year lol, so in that I own a Z I have never even seen or touched lol (bought it right after getting here from another member), so if I ask a dumb question its purely from lack of experiance not laziness or anything. Everything i googled came up as either not making much sense or was for a completely different platform and not sure if the same concept applied when refering to S30 reinforcement. Sry for stirring anything up def wasnt my intent at all. and thanks for the great knowledge you guys are displaying here I have never looked into chassis modifications at all. -

Another +35 offset question-S30
Kurai replied to Kurai's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
What would be a good match for a 16x9? The Miro in a 4 lug only goes up to a 16x9. Im lost with this whole offset thing lol so ok the Miro has a ET of 15....so what does that mean? I was thinking that means that it is 15mm to the left of the center of the wheel if viewed from behind. -

Another +35 offset question-S30
Kurai replied to Kurai's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Wouldnt -35 put the wheel way outside of the wheel well? The S30 has 0 offset right....help me if im wrong here i still get confused with this offset stuff lol, but isnt +35 mean the wheel/hub mating surface is 35mm AWAY from the center of the rim and farther away from the hub? hehehe and also been eyeing another set of rims lol tho I already have the 35mm adapters lol. http://www.mirowheels.com/STP1.html I just cant figure out what would be a good size tire to run on a 16x9 w/ZG flares on some kinda coilover setup. -

Oh why oh why do all the best automotive shops always gotta be in california lol.....man so alot of custom work.... On #2 what would be a good setup to use for a street driven car, is there any vendor out there that sells one or is this something that im gonna wanna do custom as well? Im still confused on the RT mounts? are these the same thing as the diff mounts offered thru AZC or Modern? -

Ok sweet this list helps alot, I have a couple questions though.... 1. For the weld in roll bar and weld in rear STB where can i purchase these? Or do they have to be fabricated? 2. Will a bolt in cage (that i think you guys offer via kirk racing http://www.betamotorsports.com/products/products.php?cat=7 ) work well with all these reinforcements in a street application or is it overkill? I have it already on my list. 3. Where and will a triangular front STB work with a JZ series engine swap? 4. What and where can I get 8 and 9? Lastly you wouldnt happen to have pictures of all these areas would you lol, I dont have my Z here and think I know the areas you are talking about but definately am not real familiar with the S30....yet lol. Very good list though def what i wanted to know. -
Do you think the gearing in the R230 would be a good match?

Kurai replied to Kurai's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hmm now is that the piece that is offered at baddog all welded in or is that somethng that you guys had made? If it was bought how much and from where? I really wanna make sure this Z is up to par as much as possible and not just go slap alot of power on it and then have it twist from under me. Also does anyone have a diagram or anything of where all to stitch weld the chassis at? Oh and a side question what is the usual general condition most you guys find the fuel cell in? pretty good shape or usually not? Just asking because if not ill have a summit cell added as well at the spare tire well like alot of ppl on here have done and was thinking that too (well the frame for it) can probably be modified to help connect the right and left sides of the rear chassis. Try and get everything knocked out in one fair swoop. -

Kurai replied to Kurai's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yeah I was eyeing those the other day but couldnt find too much information on them other then the description. Like what is the weakness of the OEM design vs this one etc etc etc. Im sure its something common sense that all long time Z owners know but im lost at the weak points of this chassis. lol but they def just got another look lol, the guy that is finishing up the build on my Corolla has done some work with Baddog on their car I think. -
Ok try not to flame me too much guys I have been searching and trolling around the forum trying to learn this or that but just cant seem to find all the answers im looking for or various opinions and not sure which one to go with. So the situation is this I have a newly acquired 1973 240Z and am currently in Afghanistan and plan to get hot and heavy on her when I return home and am doing alot of research and footwork now. The end state plan is to have a 2JZ-GTE/R154 tranny/R230 diff setup to power and drive her along with alot of little extras I am seeing ppl do here lol but what Im posting about today is what all can I do to get the suspension and chassis setup like I want it outside of the usual things. She will be more of a weekend and occasional circuit tracked car (purely for fun and experiance not too worried about competition restrictions or the like). I have read thru alot of the pinned threads and am looking at a stage 3-4 suspension setup as per the pinned thread, but what I cant find is alot of topics on seam/stitch/spot welding as far as where to do such at and to do so to get X result. I already mentioned the power/drivetrain setup but just added info want to run probably the GC coilover and the TTT weld in plates aiming for a 275ish size tire in the rear (with the ZG flares and modded fenders) and plan to also use one of the Kirk racing cages as well. Outside of that and things one the recommended list of suspension mods, where should I look at stitch welding the chassis? Does anyone make a front strut brace for a JZ series swapped 240Z? What other things can I do to reinforce the chassis while it is in the "down to bare metal stage" before she goes to paint? Like polyurethane foam etc etc etc. I wanna set it up for the best possible configuration with as little repeat teardown as possible, she will be a true project so if she has to sit 3 weeks to get something done so be it. I just wanna do it right the first time around. Thanks in advance guys there is alot of information on this site

Hmmm no idea of the difference between the two kits really, but I def like the look of those Techno camber plates. Think ill be keeping a eye on this thread lol.
-
Im on the fence about this same thing with the twins vs single.....is there a way to setup a 500+ whp 2jz setup that is on 3500-4000 without to harsh of engagement and would be good to use with a R230 diff? I have been eyeing the driftmotion kits but havent found any really good reviews yet on a similiar setup.
-
Ok thanks slowly putting my list all together to make the big buy lol.
-
Does anyone know what and where I can get this harness?
-
Hmmm im am def not a expert on doing this but from what i am understanding the 280 drivetrain is pretty strong so you should be ok with the 280 diff. Idk def the ECU from the SC, linkage, cylinders (it was a manual or auto?)im not sure what else kinda taking shots in the dark. Im working on a 73 2jz swap and know the 280 is different but not sure how all different still learning alot myself. This is def the right place to find out tho lol.
