  1. If that is what your using them for I think your combo will work pretty well. Good luck!
  2. I am curious what you want to use this set up for: street, auto-x, drag, road racing? I am not sure about the spacing issues for a 15 inch wheel, but I think it would probably work fine. I've seen/done the Toyota 4x4 calipers under a 15 in wheel with the Z31 rotors with no fitting issues. I talked to a few of my buddies that race and have used the Z32 calipers and the consensus was they loved them for the street but hated them on the track because they didn't like the feel or lack there of for modulation. This really isn't an issue of the rotor and calipers but more of the master cylinder (most use the 280zx master) and a proporting valve. No one I have come across seems to have a master for this application that gives them the feel they like. That does not mean their isn't one out there, just means I don't know of an ideal one for this application. Mark
  3. Larry, I just checked out this link. I should've looked earlier. Great link! That's pretty good information and advice. Long live the Z! Mark

    83 turbo swap into 260
  5. On a turbocharged vehicle I don't think you would get much for your money by increasing the valve sizes. In your case you are porting the head and going with a more aggressive cam. If you tune it right you could get up to 60 more horses from that change IMO. Just a guess. A bigger TB might help take advantage of that too. I remember some readings on the P90 that if you increase the intake valves on a NA motor you could yield a 15% inprovement in flow without touching the exhaust valves. The exhaust side of the P90 breathes pretty good already, so a cam with the exhaust you currently have would reap a significant change. I think it would be worth it and you would be happy with the result. I had an L28et with T3 hybrid turbo, Spearco intercooler,Z31 ecu and 420cc injectors and I was getting about 340hp at 14lbs of boost. This was running a stock cam. I had plenty of power and thought about a more aggressive cam. All my resources at the time told me that would put me near 400hp. So with bigger injectors than what I had and running more boost you probably don't need it and could still get there. I am guessing with the change you could get there with less boost. Sounds like a cool project. Good luck. Mark
  6. Welcome to Hybrid Z. Please use the search as much as possible. There is so much valuable information on this board it will make your head spin. After you search and decide on some kind of game plan let us know and we will be happy to help. Let us know what you are planning to do with the car: Drag, auto-x, road racing etc.. There are so many choices to make and you will get better and more accurate advice if tell us this information. Let me be the first to offer my .02 by saying first before trying to make the car faster make sure its safe. Check the brakes, suspension, cooling system for any potential areas of concern. If you want a faster car this is the best starting point. Next, are you prepared to be driving a Z with high horsepower output. If you are serious consider some driving schools. Okay, off my soapbox. Enjoy the ride. Mark
  7. 240Z_Master, I've considered the RB swap and originally I thought I was going to go that route. I wanted to do the RB26DETT, but its just too much money for me to pull off. I am keeping an open mind to the RB25DET right now, but am leaning more toward the LS1 swap. The reality of this is I am going to set up my car with the stock motor and hope I am able to save some money to fund the project I want. I figure it will take me a while to get the car up to snuff then decide. Did you already do the swap or are you in progress? Mark
  8. Ah ha! I think I know what it is now. I believe NVCS is the old school variable valve timing system used by Nissan. Pretty cool. Mark
  9. It looks cool. Uhh...I am clueless on this too. It's written on the Nissan part on the album too and yet I still don't know what it is? This is driving me nuts, what is it? I
  10. Briguy, Your Z was so clean, absolutely beautiful. Did I see your same Z last year at the show with primer and the LS1 motor was just mounted. From the pics you listed I think it was the same car. Wow is all I have to say! Congratulations, Mark
  11. A solid 9 is definitely accurate. I would give it a 9 on cost also. Thought I would chime in on this one. I do not have an RB26DETT. I was considering this swap and let me tell you it is big bucks to do. A buddy of mine is doing the RB25det swap instead for that reason. The RB25DET can be plenty fast and fun. The motors are cheaper the plumbing is a bit easier (in the sense you are only dealing with one turbo instead of two). The RB26DETT is impressive and I would love to have the bragging factor of having it and having done it. With that said I passed because of the cost. If you want something a whole lot easier you might want to swap the 280ZX Turbo drivetrain instead. Most if it is bolt on and less fabrication. I did that swap and it came out nice. I was getting about 340 hp with 420cc injectors, JWT computer, hybrid T3 turbo and Spearco intercooler. Its getting to be a bit more common now. I saw a bunch of them at the Motor Sport Auto show today. Its really up to you, but I bought a house instead of the RB26DETT and if I had plenty of money to fund this project I would do it. I just threw in my .02 in the hopes you realize exactly what you are getting into. If you do opt to do it take lots of pictures and keep posting. Good luck, Mark
  12. Hey guys, Was at the MSA Show today in Orange, CA and saw a very clean LS1 installed in a 280Z. Maybe I am blind, but that was the only LS1 I saw. I looked around and saw numerous 350 swaps and many more 280ZX drivetrain swaps then I expected. Did anyone happen to see any more LS1 powered early Z's at the show today? I just dropped by and didn't take any pics. Sorry, I know , I should've taken some. Anybody else see these and take any pics? Thanks, Mark
  13. Nice job! Looks like a lot of love went into that. Congratulations. Mark
  14. Hey Steve, Not sure about this year, but last year there were a couple there. I am always interested in what this motor is costing people to do the swap. If you don't mind I am curious how much you paid for your motor and whether you have a recommended source or if you just stumbled onto it. Thanks. Long live the Z. Mark
  15. Hi Guys, As a newbie to posting I thought I would add my .02 also. I've done countless searches on this site for the past 3 years. I just now and sorting out what I want to do. It took me over two years and court to get my settlement for my '72 240Z. I am telling you guys this so you know some of us out here are not whimsically posting random stupid questions. Most of the answers I have found from questions have come from recent threads as they appear, just like this one. IMHO I have experienced far better luck looking over individual's webpages that respond to these new threads than by using the search functions. It's been hit or miss on the searches and more often than not miss. Lots of questions I have are on topics I remember reading in the past and would like to revisit; upon doing a search I often come up empty. Side note: I really have a lot of respect for Z lovers. I almost gave up on Z's altogether after getting rear-ended and having the insurance companies and lawyers nearly strip everything else away. Now 3 years later I am seeing all the passion of those that feel as I did and am trying to get back in the game. Long live the Z. Mark
  16. This would definitely be the best call. Having had a turbo 280ZX drive train in an early Z I must ask this question: "what do you really plan on doing with it?" Seriously consider this, because IMHO on the street I had no complaints, but on the track it was fast but a very different experience. If you want that raw sensation the turbo is so smooth its a different ride. Just my .02 for you to consider.
