  1. Need to get out the good camera...iPhone pics are kinda weak.
  2. I thought I would revive this one with a little progress. Never did get the mirrors and spoiler figured out but did pull the motor and send it back to the body shop. Should get it back in a few weeks and start putting it back together…slowly
  3. The Fender mirrors never look quite right to me without the ZG flares, but i will reconsider....
  4. Well its all back together and been having fun ripping it around all summer...cant decide if i should put the spoiler back on and have no idea what mirrors to go with...motor coming out soon to do the engine compartment. came out nice over all, some flaws in the clear getting fixed when we do the engine bay. Gets a ton of attention for sure. Any opinions on the spoiler and mirrors?
  5. i have to look at the size, but i think 225/45/16... you could go wider no problem if you have coil-overs and had the right offset on the rim , the coil overs give you lots of room on the inside.
  6. Yeah Vitaloni Sebring Mach 1. You see these on vintage race cars. not sure if you could really see anything out of them mounted like that, but i have been tempted to try those myself. The Californians look cool to, anyone have any experience with ether of these on the Z?
  7. The high end for the price was 3500 I told them not to go over that, find out soon the total but i expect about 3300 or so. I took it all apart except for the doors, windshield and hatch glass. They did everything that shows except the engine compartment, get to that next winter. The wheels are 16x8, can't recall the ofset, they came with the car. G.C coilovers and rolled fenders they don't rub.
  8. Ha.. yeah the Insurance agent was like "what damage?" ACORN DAMAGE!! .. lol
  9. Hmmm....but I kinda like having the only one in this exact orange ... lol ... But like I said 09 and up Hemi orange without the metal and it would be hard to tell the diff I think. Have to find a challenger to park next to and check it out.
  10. Orange is defiantly a love it or hate it color...some people don't get it.my second choice was the WRX blue..but this thing gets a crowd every time.
  11. We just went for the same orange it had when I got it..the car was red stock but the p.o had painted it the perfect orange in my opinion. It is very close to the new Hemi orange but just one shade darker and no metallic. I almost went Hemi orange but chickened out at the last minute...glad I did, it's sweet.
  12. So last fall the oak trees on my street decided to bear unusually large fruit and pummel the Z. The right and left fenders took the brunt of the damage with only a few dings on the hood and roof. I had two other cars parked outside and nether got even one ding, but the Z had over fifty on the fenders alone! These were quite small and not like Hail damage but just little waves …over and over and over. So in the tiny little town I find myself in the bids to fix the dings and repaint just the front came to $2500. Thing is the paint on this car has always been crap even though it looked great in pictures, up close it was full of bondo scratch had totally wavy doors even a few hairs suck in the paint. So the insurance co. paid out the $2500.00 I stripped the parts and threw in the extra $500 to $800 and dropped it at the shop. The plan is just to do as best they could for that price, make it straight, paint the jams, delete some emblems ext. so a few pics..The one in the driveway is a before shot, took about three weeks should get it back in a few days
  13. Dude i need that T5 if you wanna sell it..be down in socal round the 10th or so could pick it up..take the drive shaft too...let me know
  14. Well i got mine out and apart... all the syncos are missing at least 2 teeth and 2nd is shredded. i have decided to let this one go as i really need an O.D. 5th. I will put it up in the for sale section in a few days but thought i would offer it up here first as it does qualify as "parts". In the car it would grind into 2nd, grind against reverse coming out of 5th, and occasionally pop out of 4th. I don't know anything about transmissions but this one looks fairly nice to me, i believe someone has rebuilt it before as the forks look to have double role pins. i have no idea what its worth, one guy told me i would be lucky to get $200 and another not to take less than $700, but neither wanted it.
  15. thanks for the generous offer cockerstar... holding out for a 5spd for sure 77-78 or a t5 would be my preference but anything that i can make work...
  16. Removing my comp. trans that needs a rebuild and need a good replacement till i figure out what to do with it. also need a drive shaft, the one for the comp. trans wont fit anything else. A nice t5 or a NA ZX 5spd would work but let me know what you got. I might be willing to trade the comp. one plus cash or whatever for the right deal. Something in CA. would be good, but mostly i just need it quick...Thanks
  17. Well hopefully I will be pulling mine out this weekend and we will see how bad it is. After looking around and seeing all Jon’s posts on the Porsche syncros over the years I feel like doing it just to see…not sure I can live with the 1:1 5th in my street car though, so we will see…hopefully knightoftheround will have good luck and be able to get it done.
  18. MY apologies if this is a little off topic but I have been watching this one…. So I have the same trans in my car with bad syncros and JMort Had turned me on to the Porsche syncro thing. I had hoped to limp it till winter and deal with it then but it’s started to pop out of 4th so its gota go. I love this box when it behaves fun for sure but I wonder if they’re worth the trouble. Can this trans handle 260+hp? Like to see someone talk about how well this trans has worked out for them and in what application. Mine will be a street car so I think it won’t make it back into the car regardless, but I think I will miss it. The other Question is what are these things worth in this condition? Mine might be good for parts or? Love to trade it for a solid T5. Never seen a comp box for sale any condition…but I expect rebuilt well it would bring good $$$...or not?
  19. so i looked under the car today and noticed that the trans seems to be twisted to the right just a tad. its kinda hard to see because the car is on stands and not a lift...all the mounts LOOK good but i wounder if the drivetrain could be twisting under hard acceleration and causing the driveshaft to go out of phase and then back in when the revs come down? I dont know ...kinda shooting in the dark at this point.
  20. yea that's what always think to, its just that this vibration totally feels like its coming from the back of the car. there is no noticeable vibration in the shifter as i recall, and it wont occur if the car is in neutral and you just rev it hard. kinda at a loss for what to think at this point, i figured when i got under it it would be obvious. i may just go after the oil leak and get it back on the ground and see if i can narrow it down a little.
  21. thats fairly interesting...thanks for the link. I was ready to toss that trans because the synchros feel pretty done, have to heel it just right to go from 3rd to 2nd without grinding. I have heard of those steel synchro transmissions how can i tell if this is what i have? Did they come in production cars or were they just a competition part? I will work on checking the phasing and see what that revels.
  22. Well I put the car up on stands to try and fix the leaky oil pan and find the source of a big time vibration that starts to come on about 5800 rpm and by 7000k feels like the wheels are coming off. The car will cruse at any speed no problem as long as the revs are down. The whole drive train looked pretty solid (except for the oil dripping off everything) and I couldn’t get any play out of the ujoints or mounts and the diff strap is failing but still holding its own at this point. But the drive shaft is this two piece slip together thing with a sticker from some truck driveline shop on it. I can feel play at the point where it slips together, rocking it and up and down, but not a lot at all. What gets me is after the last time I was under the car I figured the whole rear end and 5spd were from a early 79 just like the rear brakes, but then couldn’t you just use the drive shaft from the same car? Why this thing? So now im not to sure what I have, or what to replace it with. So do you guys think the drive shaft is the most likely cause of the vibration? how can I tell if a stock drive shaft will fit and what year to use?
