I have the Mallory in mine but did remove the hood latch. With the stock latch still in place I could see no way to to do any engine work without pulling it back out. The stock latch keeps you from removing the distributor cap.
That's good to know. I'll probably go the hood pin route with my fiberglass hood (not installed). Eh, I have to still make up my mind anyway. Options, options...

I still want a Cleveland V8, either stroked or with a pair of hairdryers on a std displacement. but this is a lot cheaper and parts are a lot more common.
Then this is your next best alternative. There was an Aussie or Kiwi, a few years ago, on the forum that had a Rover V8 powered Z car...blue in color if I remember it. He had a website and all, but I have no idea if he kept it up after he sold the car. It's a pretty decent swap, so no worries or regrets I'm sure, especially for $100.

C'mon guys, he's posting it because it was a kick for him. The Charger police cars look pretty good, and with the 5.7L V8, I'm sure they go pretty well too.
The video just needs some serious doughnuts spun in the parking lot with the cop yelling at you behind all the tire smoke, and then we'd be a bit more attentive
Thanks, Will.

I was wondering what options there are for the JTR kit so i can keep the stock latch, I've seen there are magnetic type which seem to be a lot smaller, anyone used something similar?
Yes, the smaller base diameter distributors should give you about an inch or so of room, I would think. Clearly, that would be the way to go, or you can go LT1 which has the Optispark located at the front of the motor. I have both distributors and I'll end up using the smaller base disty (Mallory) instead of the HEI. I don't have the motor in the car, so I cannot tell you if the Mallory has enough room in the JTR position. It would be nice to keep the stock latch stock

Stunning work. Very nicely done and quite functional too! Me likey
The bullnosing on the corners looks great and adds a touch of class. How good do the speakers sound? The more I look at this nice tasty fabbed wet bar, the more I like it...

I have been sacrificing spending just for things the house needs and I've been doing that for 10 years while trying to just make some progress on my Z. Currently I am not spending money on unnecessary items, like beer (ok, just a little), but I am trying to make sure that what we do spend goes to the right places in the right amounts. I'd love $30,000 right now, to just get the whole house done and then some. I could finally devote money to the Z and get the car finished....

Went by quite a few that are dry... the price is dropping where I live from $4.28 to $3.75... but they are still out of gas
True, I have seen some where the price is possibly going down, but at least the lines are shorter, gas IS available from what I can tell, and it's not as crazy at it was before.
The Sunday newspaper indicated that the "spigot is on," which means this mess should be resolved this week. It's now Wed, so lets see what the lines, if any, are like this morning.
Mike, if I was a betting man, I'd say come out and take your chances. I think you'll find gasoline.

Dave, if you want it, we can make your other fender roller thread a sticky if you'd like. Just PM me or one of the admin if you decide this is a "go."

Popeyes or KFC?
Church's Fried chicked is better....but OK, Popeyes for now
Don Rickles or Tim Conway?

Six Shooter had some good points, the width of the bulge being one of them. Wider is better, I think, and will help blend the look. A narrower bulge looks good on cars with nothing else going on, but I think a wider one in this case, like a cowl induction type, is going to look better.
I admire your work and I look forward to your thoughts and pictures Ah, you inspire us, Terry!!

Bought a fender roller a while back to use on my 71. Now that I am finished with it is there any interest in doing a loaner program like I do with the spindle pin pullers? Its not really a for rent program. I am thinking about charging shipping both ways like I do with the spindle pin pullers.

I think you qualify for sainthood. That's a pricey piece, so maybe working a refundable deposit into the gig would be a good idea??

How about cutting a big hole in the hood, making an airbox to seal the carbs to the underside, and using a cowl induction setup a couple inches out from the windshield?
Terry, I would second a cowl induction-style raised portion to the back. I had dreams of taking your GT40 hood and adding a cowl to the raised portion (just like a typical Z cowl-induction hood) would give the intake more room with the added benefit of than having a more "correct" or more "balanced" look.
I figure that the cowl + GT40 cooling = sexy-like-the-Doublemint-twins package
I agree with Evan that you are the master, so if it doesn't come out to your specs, you'll just change it. I think if anyone can balance the form vs function part of aesthetics, it's you.

And this 1990 GTP-ZX Turbo...
Yep, I took my wife to see the GTP cars run at Laguna Seca in 1994(?) This really brought back memories for me; thanks for posting

I love the period correct-looking "Turbo" decals on the rocker panels
The car is stunning and beautifully done. Nice work!

It is a 1/8 mile track...It is a small back woods track so Jerry can do some practicing. It is going to be different. Probably will do a roll through burnout this time and take of easy and lay into it gradually to see what happens...
I had to read this twice; it sounds suspiciously like a back road or business park
Riiiight.... a "back woods" track

Speaking of rust! I found this vid while I was searching for a solution to my bushing removal. This definately qualifies for the budget resto:

That ROCKS!!!! THANK YOU!!! Rusted suspension pieces, your time has come

It does look good from the pics! I have to say it looks better than I had imagined it would. I personally don't like the look of the ZX dash with the stock ho-hum gauges, but your mod makes it look pretty darn good!
Keep up the great work!

The engine sounds violent in my opinion. I think it will break the car Nice sounding...what do you think HP-wise? 800??

Engine, what... oh, that little thing?
Yeah, this thing's a sleeper, but in a very sad way.
I think it qualifies as a "snoozer."

Yeah, I'm an old fart - although my wife opines that I haven't aged mentally past my 2 year old grandson's level. We will have a good time until he passes me intellectually, LOL.
Man, ain't that the truth! Young in the mind, young in the body. I think you are as old as you think you are. Although I'm still dealing with the it's-not-the-years, it's-the-mileage-kind-of-thing. Hope you fare better...
Happy birthday

Stellar job! Looks like you are doing excellent work and the paint almost *dare I say it?* glows! Man, that's cool. Good choice on color The gloss black on the front crossmember was a cool idea too--most are flat or satin black.
