  1. ...Ideally the seat mount SHOULD deform the transmission tunnel on a hard side impact to move away from the hit. This deformation must be controlled and kept to a few inches at most.

Interesting thought. The mount should deform, but the seat certainly should not! My brother and I owned a Datsun 510 in high school. He was T-boned by a Ford LTD and the Recaro steel seat structure is what kept the door from really messing him up, or so a few said at the time. I can't remember if the mounts broke or not, but the seat was moved to the center of the car--that much was true!

Thanks for the read. Makes one think about the Z...

  2. you might want to keep in mind its basically a throttle body injection system and while it in theory beats a carb, its never going to beat a MPFI set-up for f/a ratio control to each cylinder due to the design limitations

This is completely true. From the article in the Nov 2008 issue of HOT ROD magazine, the price for this gem is below the other, more complete systems, but it's not quite as good as the other systems like the MassFlo EFI or Edelbrock ProFlo, etc. The main advantage besides the price is the compact nature and the fact it barely changes the look of an engine compartment, which is huge if there is a specific look you are going for; classic muscle car guys would like this product.

  3. I'll let you guys know the mistake. The numbers are real small on the digital 6 and kinda blurry and i had the rev limiter set at 6500 instead of 7500 :(. I checked the plugs first and then i checked the limiter. So i turned the limiter up to 7600 and just to make sure it was working ok i took it out for a test drive and took it to 7200.

Haha! Well, at least this was a relatively EASY fix. Don't feel bad, I have kicked myself for missing simpler things in life :D Thanks for the update, but why are you running it for the last time this year???

  4. Most of it looks like Hwy 9 or some road way out there--it gets very dark and narrow in some places, but there is also section of grassy hills that looks a lot more East Bay. The scene keeps switching, so these are probably from different locations.

  5. John & Jerry,

The car is looking just too cool with the freshened up motor :2thumbs: You guys are certainly an inspiration for guys that are looking to go fast :D

I hope to meet you guys someday---I'm in Charlotte. I think there is a track in Lancaster, SC, fairly close to here, but I don't have any information on it.

  6. Hmmm, sounds like you will need to do body work using filler. Bummer. That book will help a lot with the DIY stuff and I think you'll find it very good reading too. So far, it's the best DIY paint & body book out there. I hope you find it helpful too.

The dent puller tool (Ding King) does serve its purpose, so I'm not writing it off completely--it's still worth the price for what it does. Metal that has a sharp kink in it...well...that's not going to just "pop" out...

Sometime I may get enough gumption to order some dent popping tools like the professional paintless dent guys use. Until then, things I can't bump out get body filler.

  7. ...but naturally the pair must be a matched set...a few oil pressure gauges use two wire connections, many just a sensor and a single connection, most need a MATCHED pressure sending unit and a gauge...

That's really the key in determining what direction you want to go in. If you plan on keeping the dash stock looking and want to save a buck, install the Datsun oil pressure sending unit and use the stock gauge. However, if you want to spice up the look of your dash with aftermarket gauges, then use a comparable sending unit.

I'm going to try and use the stock sending unit and likely the stock gauge as per JTR. Simple and cheap.

Keep in mind that many of these parts are 30+ years old. The risk is whatever you think it is

  8. I thought it was a great attempt and it even did work some. Also davy if you need to borrow the Ding King let me know and I can ship it to you =)

Haha! Hey, cool. :D I appreciate it, but at about $30, I'll probably just buy one---you need to tell me if that sucker works, though! Thanks a bunch though :2thumbs:

  9. Fair warning, I don't know for sure if it's the heat or the compressed air but it definately messes up the paint.

Scary. Sorry for leading you in that direction if it doesn't work. I'll still try it on my company car though :D

  10. Isn't awesome to get another space in the garage?!? I went from a packed two car garage to a packed three car, BUT I have space for my Z and then some  I want to epoxy the floor too, but every time I look at all the junk, I go to the garage fridge and drink a beer--the feeling begins to go away...

Nice! Looks like you Z is 'nesting' it's so comfy :2thumbs:

    Congrats on the new garage.

  11. Best simple bodywork book I have found yet is: How to Paint Your Car on a Budget by Pat Ganahl.

I think creases are begging for body filler. You might want to try some body work tools and try to tap them out. Clearly, though, if you used the compressed air/heat method and were able to get most of the dent out, that's SUPER. I have to try it on my Civic and see if I can get it to work...

  12. Whoa! Serious overspray!! I wonder if there is a basin in the floor to reclaim those chemicals?

My thoughts too. I like the outcome. Looks so simple that a 6 year old could do it. "Runs? We don't need no stinkin' runs!" Cripes, man, that looks easy!!!!!!!

  13. Check out the customer reviews, course it sounds like all three were written by the same uneducated person...give it a try and let us know how it works!

"I tried liquid chrome I bought the kit I did everything like the instruction says and I was very dissapointed this came out to be like a gray silver not even close to chrome like it said I think the price is too high for this product that dont work I had use in the past duplicolor chrome that is even better than this product just dont put clear in the duplicolor because it will change to gray or dont wax and it look like stainless steel not so much like chrome but this product not even close"spacer01.gif

"I tried your chrome & clear kit an was not impressed at all. In fact I was dissapointed."spacer01.gif

"I do not recommend this product is the worst product you can buy for that price dont even look nothing like the video duplicolor spray paint is better im really upset in spending $80 for this junk doing everything that it say to do and still came out to be the worst paint just look like a gray paint if you buy it is own your own risk I gave my advice I wish they could return my money back I will send the little bit left back so upset I am"

Also I use there "almost chrome" powder and it certainly looks good but its not chrome, more of a ceramic coating look. But im sure it different then the paint and Ive never tried a black base.

Not one positive comment? Have purchased many a product from them before, I would hesitate to say that it is anything other than misapplication. I have used products before that were good, but my application and prep work were the things that needed to improve, not the product! Hard to believe they would release a bad product or not test it out first???? C'mon!

  14. That is one ugly car, but you gotta admire the craftsmanship. Just seems a shame to put that much work into a project and have it come out looking like that. He should have talked to someone who had some taste. :)

Well, I think the work he did turned out great, but at least HE likes it :D

I'd love to try something like that on a Z (but have it be a very tasteful wide-body instead).

  15. Polarity, I just watched a dent erasing technique on YouTube that utilizes compressed air (it's very cold) and a hair dryer (warm air). The effect was stunning and it is by far the cheapest way to go that I have found. It may also be worth looking into. Just FYI.
