  1. I doubt I'll be able to find some camel hump heads at the yard, but I'll try!!!! That would be the bomb! With the small cc heads and good flowing characteristics, I should be about 300-350 hp! David
  2. It worked !!!! David
  3. See BLKMGK's "Boneheaded Moves I Wish I Hadn't Made FAQ" in the General Information section of the forum: I think I posted that I regret ever buying a 260Z with rust--I'm shopping 240Zs now and I have turned down several due to rust. I will not let this happen again. Spending $3500 on a rust free Z is better than spending $450 on a rusty scupper. Do not do it! David
  4. Frank, I went ot your page and saw a pic of your car in black and now in the new silver--very stunning looking; nice job! I can't see anything on your posts though; it just says "image hosted by angelfire" David
  5. I thought I might have been spelling it incorrectly! Thanks for the links--the "Lilith Charcoal" is nice, but I was thinking something lighter in the engine compartment like "Grey Stone." However, if I'll paint the passenger compartment to match the engine compartment, I'll definitely go with the Lilith Charcoal color. David
  6. Mike, I know the 305 came with some small CC heads, like 58cc. That bumps the compression way up to about 10:1 on an 8:1/8.5:1 motor. The 350 heads...well...I'm not sure they are 58cc or 64cc. Sorry--someone else should chime in. Those heads are supposed to flow better than say a stock 350 with 76cc smog heads from the 70's. David
  7. If you get the chance to meet Pete, do it!
  8. Go to the HybridZ store on the "Speed racer page" where you log in.
  9. I don't think it really matters if the engine is a Pontiac or a Chevy. Most V8's will run to 5500 rpm. The Pontiac would be a first for me; I have never heard of that swap before, but I'm not saying it hasn't been done. Both motors make torque enough to boil the baloneys (spin the rear tires)--so that's not really an issue. 99% of the swaps are Chevy. Why? Tried and true, that's why! Get a knowledgeable friend to look at it with you. If the price is right, buy it! As far as casting numbers are concerned, go the the book store or library and get an engine guide or a good rebuilder's guide that specifies how to figure out the casting numbers for both engines. David David
  10. There is no way I'm going to replace my front crossmember! I can't see that being worth the trouble, for me anyway... The belly pan also works to catch oil dripping from the engine and keeps the driveway clean !!!! (ahem) I don't think I'll launch the car by putting a belly pan under the front of the car, especially when I'll have an airdam and a lowered stance. The amount of air getting under the car relative to stock should be minimal. I will check into it some more just to be sure--you guys scare me My airdam will include a extension that goes from the bottom of the airdam even further to the ground and it's from a Supra--see "Datto's" ride in the Zdriver member's ride; he has that piece. Thanks for the concern guys; I'll research it further when I undertake it. Good luck Mike Kelly in making it all work! David
  11. Hope you get the upper hand! David

I keep coming up with the following measurements on my R200: right side= 13 3/8" left side= 13 5/8" (could be 13 1/2") Sorry about the delay & hope this helps... David
  13. Pro Am! That's the name of the company I could not remember--they're good on customer service and are apparently one of the larger retailers of Recaro seats. Peter, you hit the nail on the head with that one! John, the Internet Z-car Club may have something like that on file. David
  14. My quick amphibian friend , I have not heard of someone doing that before, but I'm sure it comes down to the length of the wiper on the windshield (will it fit?--could find a suitable one if not) and the bulk of the assembly on the interior of the hatch--wait a minute...is the wiper motor located in the hatch, above or below it? Hrm, I'll have to go look at one this weekend in the wrecking yard... David
  15. Cripes, it's a work of art!!!!! Stunning workmanship--you should be hecka proud! David
  16. JohnBoy, John Coffey is right in saying from the cat back, the smog laws really don't matter. What does matter is your local noise ordinance, whatever it is. Usually, unless a car is obnoxiously loud, the police will leave it alone. Even where I live, there are restrictions about loud car stereo music because the public has become very annoyed at the current trend, but I've rarely seen the cops ticket for it. David
  17. Thanks for posting that, Mike. That is Datto's car, but he has Watanabe or Panasports on there now. Killer ride; met him at the Nat'ls; Cool guy. David
  18. Whoa! Sweet looking tire & wheel package! Those rims have a nice bit of "negative offset look" or whatever you call it. It's not FWD looking in other words. Fills in the well very nicely and looks aggressive. I bet a complete shot of the car would look even better (hint, hint)... David
  19. Len, I saw guys that had the "ZG flares" at the Nat's and some cut their inner fender, while others did not. Owen has them on his car I think, but he has yet to cut up his inner fender... Owen would know what the correct tire & wheel size would be for those flares. David

Al, my bad--I came home at about 10:30 pm from a company meeting and was so tired I forgot about the measurements. I'm going home today early, so I can get them today. Sorry about the delay. David
  21. Calipers new = expensive. Calipers rebuilt = $200 US Use 1979-1985 Toyota 4X4 truck calipers. Use brake cleaner only! Brake cleaner does not leave behind an oily residue like other mineral spirits--that's why they sell it specifically. Carb cleaner is similar but NOT the same and should not be used on brakes either. You don't want any kind of oily residue on rotor now do you? David
  22. Heh, you'd think so, but I believe I read someplace that a car becomes unstable by the amount of turbulence under the car (it creates lift under the fron end). A spoiler helps keep turbulent air (and just air for that matter) from under the car. A belly pan helps smooth out what air there is underneath and keeps the air from building up under the car from the engine compartment. That's my take on it anyway. It's all theory.... David
  23. Hack up my Q45 for the sake of my Z?!? I don't think so! My R200 diff is just fine and I'll use it in the Z. LSD is not the end-all be-all of rear ends. David
  24. If they were polished, maybe you could!!! Mike Kelly would be your first sell too! Shaping aluminum would be a first for me,so I think fiberglass would be a better option. Still, I could mock something up using cardboard, and then go to the wrecking yard and look for a plastic one that was similar or at least adaptable, and go from there! Thanks for the idea, Jamie! David
  25. Thanks for suggesting it Mike.... Welcome to the forum! I agree with Mike (zfan) that an R200 might not take the shock from the slicks. Scottie, Rick, and Andrew drag race their cars all the time and each has an IRS. Their input would be helpful. I have even heard of guys (Scottie maybe?) that have stub axle hoops (like a driveshaft hoop). David
