hey guys I have a '83 280zx pretty much stock everything except for the engine stuff (turbo and intercooler). My car drives like a bowl off jello, and I wanted to buy new shocks and springs. and I'm cheap, so no super cool expensive coilover sets (beside the car doesn't run well, so I won't shell out money on a car that, after 4 years of screwing around in, still won't run well) and I don't want a car that too low for very daily driving. I found out that KYB shocks are everywhere, there is some Gabriels as well on some sites. so I guess, for basic, stock like performance, i'm covered for shocks.. but the only springs I could find is an eiback lowering kit (1 inch lower) for a lot of money ( https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/classic20c01 ). if anyone aware of stock like (or mild drop) springs available anywhere? There are some AC delcos listed in a few place, but back order everywhere.. thanks! seb

I'm doing some long overdue maintenance on 260z today. When I jacked up the rear end the left wheel wouldn't come off the ground so I had to put a block of wood on jack to get it up another 4 inches. In photo you can see the passenger side wheel is off the ground and suspension in a normal relaxed position. The driver side is about six inches lower and wheel is only 1/2 inch off the ground. The second photo shows the shock appears to have moved in the tube. This is new, haven't seen this before when working on the car. Anybody have any ideas on what has changed and why this is happening? The reason I have it jacked up is because the rear brake reservoir is empty so I'm tracking down where the leak is. May be related to this weird deal with the shocks or may be unrelated. Appreciate any thoughts, thanks!

I just installed a set of Vogtland springs, and they lowered the car an even 2". Its a little lower than i would have liked, but its alright. But i am concerned about the amount of travel it took away from the suspension. It looks like there is only about an inch left of travel before bottoming out. Is this normal?

Hi all, I'm tackling suspension and chosen to go with a coil-over conversion. I've looked into companies such as Stance, BC Racing, Ground Control, and Arizona Z Car. I notice that a big selling points for some of these companies is the inverted strut design they use for their shocks. From my research I've pulled the following pros and cons to inverted struts. Pros: -Shock is less prone to leaking -Shock body (sort of) acts as a suspension arm (in the MacPherson Strut design) -Even compression within the shock -Lower temperature of shock oil during compression Cons: -Clunking (a lot of Subaru guys get this, is it just an OEM shock thing?) -Cost -Adjusting the stiffness of rebound/compression is less convenient Because I don't foresee myself ever using stickier rubber than street-able r-comps (think Advan A048) and considering my car is my daily (I go to Laguna Seca twice or three times a month), would it be wiser to go the DIY Ground Control conversion route or would it be worth it to drop ~1500 dollars on Stance/Arizona Z Car coil overs? Thanks, Liam
