mditt8671
This Z is near me, I asked for more pics and it really seems like it doesn't have much rust for a PA car: It does, though, have a sunroof. I really don't want one. I can weld and have access to a MIG (I may even buy one of my own if I end up getting a car I need to work on)... I just think that getting a donor roof and putting it on myself is beyond my abilities. I don't have any bodywork experience (yet) and that seems to be a lot more involved than patching some rust spots. But that just seems to be a pretty rust-free car for living in PA! Thoughts? rossman
It depends how much they want for the car. Have you checked the frame rails, hatch area, fender lip around the rear tires and dog legs (in front of the rear tires)?
rturbo 930
What's your budget like? Could just farm that one bit of work out to a shop. BTW, you should check that car over more carefully. Rust hides. For example, when I bought my 240z, I thought it needed a few small floor patches, dog legs, and the hatch sill. In reality, it's got about twice that, at least. mditt8671
Well, my budget is somewhat open-ended depending on the quality of the car and what it brings. I'm thinking about doing (or better yet, buying) a hybrid, but I'm open minded about keeping it historically correct if I happen to find a strong running one in great shape. Both are cool in their own way. I haven't had a chance to check it out in person yet because it's an hour away and I've been indecisive about whether I should even go see it because of the sunroof. JSM
Well, my budget is somewhat open-ended depending on the quality of the car and what it brings. If it's open ended look outside of the state then. Arizona and California.
19762802+2
There is always rust, just depends on how the car was treated to determine how much there is. My friend just bought a 510 wagon thats been sitting for 20 years and Colorado is fairly dry most of the time and his car has some bad rust spots. I would poke around the sound deadening with a screwdriver it usually hides under there and if it sat outside there might be some in the cowl area if there is a large build up of leaves. I would check under the fenders as well. Just go for what you want and be prepared for the work.
