brianZortiz
I am going to go skydiving in a few months from now in Taft , CA. I live in Los Angeles and the only way there is the grapevine down the 5 north. I've been there before, but never in my Z's. And that thing is intimidating and I usually stay in shoulder lane with trucks because I didn't want to push the inline 4 isuzu amigo. The question is how have your s30z or any old z handle it? I am going to redo my cooling system and will have anywhere around 130whp out of the L engine. With your experiences can a Z take care of it driving at normal speed with modern cars and not in the shoulder lane with trucks on emergency lights. Stealth-Z
Stock 78 automatic 280Z climbed the hill with no problem. Even had the AC on. Not very fast accelerating up hill but it held its own.
brianZortiz
Damn. With the AC on is a feat. Where you going at same pace with other cars climbing the hill? Thanks for the confident boost. :]
Z-Guy
went though a couple of times in my stock 77 z manual (4spd) cruised righ through . just make sure to check everything like any somewhat long trip (belts, hoses, fluids, tire pressure, brakes ect.). I was actually speeding sometimes having no 5 gear keeps the motor up enough to overcome the climb.
brianZortiz
Awesome. Yes I plan on doing a tune up before and check the parts you stated. I have a 5 speed now but I do remember 4th gear keeps the engine revs and has good amount of power. Thanks for tips and info.
rejracer
I've driven it dozens of times in my 72 240. I used to make the trip from Sacramento to LA once a month, never had a problem.
johnc
You're kidding right? I've run the grapevine in my 240Z at over 100mph with no problems at all, just watch for the cops.
brianZortiz
John, 100mph going up the mountain? And a stock 240z or your old racecar? @rejracer thanks for input. After the grapevine to Sacramento it's all flat. I might take a trip down there soon.
johnc
My 1971 street car with a L28. I couldn't go that fast in my old race car (back in autocross trim) because I was towing a tire trailer. That was done at about 80 mph.
