280z4me2
From what I understand, The 300ZXT cv shafts will bolt to my 280z R200 with the MM adapters. The 300ZXT has 4 bolt flanges and the non-turbo has 6 bolt. Is this the only difference? I found a yard with three 300zx but its a good distance away. If they are all non turbo I was thinking of just taking the 6 bolt cv shafts and R200 at the same time to avoid buying adapters... This will allow me to just swap out R200 diff internals with a lsd at a later time.... This seems like a to cheap to be true swap compared to the desired turbo shafts. Any input is appreciated. Six_Shooter
The adapters are for the companion flange, not the diff.
NewZed
The OP might be talking about using this - http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32_53&products_id=63 - with a 300ZX NA 6 bolt CV flange. MM calls it out for the 280ZXT 6 bolt flange. So the question is, are the bolt patterns and dimensions of the 6 bolt 280ZXT CV flange the same as those of the 6 bolt 300ZX NA CV flange? Might as well also ask if the dimensions are the same for the 280ZX NA 6 bolt CV flange. They all look similar. But here's a couple of threads on the CV swap, in general, worth reading - http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/65177-300zxt-cv-issue/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/102798-short-z31t-cv-shafts-group-buy/
280z4me2
I'm still learning this stuff... I guess what I was asking is can you use the 300zx 6 bolt companion flange to bolt the 6 bolt shafts on?
280z4me2
Ok, so the 280zxt companion flanges are 6 bolt as well as the 300zx non-turbo. The question is are they the same bolt pattern as each other? Also, are all 300zx cv shafts the same length? (Other then driver side being shorter).... If I can't avoid the adapter, I would atleast want to redrill it to the 300zx non Turbo 6 bolt pattern. Much easier to come across them in the junk yards... JMortensen
I don't think you're going to redrill the flanges for a 280ZXT to fit the 300ZXT or vice versa. They're a lot different. Diameter, space for the stub axle nut inside the adapter, etc. The 280ZXT and the 300ZX NA have the same bolt pattern, at least that was what was reported by the one guy who said that he cut off 4" off the NA shaft and resplined it and it worked. I don't have the 280ZXT adapters, but I did buy a 300ZX NA shaft, and it looked to me like if you tried to cut 4" off IIRC and use it with the 300ZXT adapter, the shaft would be too short. Here is that post: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/100094-cv-axle-discussion/page__view__findpost__p__951914
280z4me2
My main goal would be to use the 300zx n/a cv shafts. As long as the only difference is the bolt pattern, I should be able to buy adapters and have them re-drilled?
NewZed
Even the guys who use the adapters have problems with the shafts being too long. There doesn't appear to be a simple answer. I don't think that you've read through any of the links that have been offered, there's a lot of information in them. Report back with the MM adapter purchase and re-drill, it will add to the base of knowledge. Edit - one thing to note though, that might be in your favor: the 280Zs appear to have more distance between the companion flanges, wheel-to-wheel, than the 240Zs. Edit #2 - actually, if the bolt pattern is the same for the 6 bolt 300Zx and the 280ZXT flanges, and you determine that the shafts are not too long, then you should just get the 280ZXT 6 hole adapters (Post #3), not the 300ZX 4 hole adapters. I think that the 300ZX shafts might be too long for 240Zs and 280Zs though, but worth checking. Edited January 26, 2012 by NewZed
