akumazedex
I just got my su carbs on my 260 today and wanna know what kind of oil I need to put into them and how much, one of them is low on oil and needs to be topped off. I know it's noob question but carbs are alien technology to me lol. Regards. Edited April 24, 2012 by battlesquaddatsun
gogriz91
I put ATF in mine, have heard folks talking about Marvel Mystery oil too.
BluDestiny
I used marvel mystery oil. Worked fine for 2 years for me.
beermanpete
I use 10W30. I am not sure the amount in volume required but there are marks on the damper that you remove to add the oil. It is easy to overfill so add oil with an eyedropper or similar method that is easy to control. I dip a long, thin screwdriver blade into the oil bottle and then move it quickly to the opening in the carb, letting it drip off into the carb. OldAndyAndTheSea
I know some guys who swear by using sewing machine oil in their carbies
suparman
I use royal purple 10w30 And I think it is about three ounces to fill them
akumazedex
Sweetness, so basically it's just trivial, as long as it lubes, could probably run KY in them hahaha. Thanks for the help guys.
Leon
Sweetness, so basically it's just trivial, as long as it lubes, could probably run KY in them hahaha. Thanks for the help guys. Not trivial at all. The damping fluid controls the rise of the piston during acceleration (don't go there!). Higher viscosity oil will enrich the mixture during transient acceleration conditions and lower viscosity will lean it out. It also has the potential to get eaten by the engine if you pour in too much so make sure that it's something compatible with a combustion chamber. akumazedex
So I should be safe running some 10-30 for the time being? Or what would be "standard"?
sbo
Pretty sure standard is 20w
beermanpete
The 1972 Datsun service manual specifies to "use Mobile SAE 10W-30 for damper oil. Do not use SAE #30 or higher weight oils."
PR280z
My Z is fuel inj., but i do have a TR7 with two Zenith Strombergs carbs. I`ve used fork damping oil for motorcycles.Seems to work fine!
akumazedex
10w-30 it is. I know everyone has their preferences but for te time being to get the car running I'll stick to what's factory
