wiZard
I found some wires under the dash of my 77 280z that were dangling and annoying me. They weren't hooked up to anything inside the car. I traced through the fire wall and found they were connected to the object circled in red. The object is mechanically connected to the throttle and electrically connected to nothing at the moment. I am hoping this part is like an appendix for Zs.

BluDestiny
I see no picture edit: that almost looks like a crude cruise control? can you get better pictures that trace it all the way to the throttle linkage? BluDestiny
Yeah that looks like a really bad cruise control setup. Do the wires under the dash connect to a switch or button?
wiZard
Yeah that looks like a really bad cruise control setup. Do the wires under the dash connect to a switch or button? No, the wires bundle just hangs underneath the steering wheel. I take it that if I want cruise control I need to get this fixed. Alternatively I can remove it from the car without worry? Miles
Did the 280Z come with factory cruise control? May be an after market cruise control. See this: http://www.classiczc...ontrol-for-280Z If it is a cruise control component then there would also be defeat switches on the clutch and brake pedal. Any switches on or near your clutch/brake pedals? Any other hoses or wires connected to the unit such as vacuum lines etc? beermanpete
I agree, it looks like a cruise control servo. There would have been a control switch for it. I have seen a few aftermarket cruise controls that add a control unit to the turn signal switch stalk. Look for some sort of speed sensor near the front of the drive shaft. A magnet or two attached to the drive shaft 180 degrees and a pick-up coil mounted near it just behind the front u-joint.

Look here: http://www.amazon.com/Audiovox-CCS100-Universal-Vacuum-Control/dp/B00029WQTW You are brilliant. My model did not come with cruise control. There is nothing about cruise in the service manual. There is a switch on the brake pedal but no switch on the clutch. The switch on the brake is connected into the wire bundle I'm wanting to remove. There is also a vacuum line going into the the device. A magnet or two attached to the drive shaft 180 degrees and a pick-up coil mounted near it just behind the front u-joint. I didn't find any magnets but that doesn't mean they weren't there at one time and were removed like the cruize control box. Thank you for your help.
