logan1
I am running a SBC 355 with a 600 cfm Holley and am using a GP-4070 Carter competition series fuel pump with a Holley pressure regulator. Can i just cap the OEM return fuel line or do i need to actually run a return line?
jnjdragracing
Yes you can cap it. Do not need a return line for that pump. How ever if you do run a return line it will make the pump run cooler. From what I was reading max fuel press for this pump is 6lbs. logan1
thanx I'll go ahead and run a return line...sounds like it would extend the life of my pump.
gravityflyer
Incidentally, the latest episode of Muscle Car briefly mentioned the need for a return line in terms of vapor lock: http://www.powerblocktv.com/player/show_player.php?ep_num=MC2012-14&ep_show=MC
Scarab73
Hi, I've heard this too about the use of a return line to reduce the tendency for vapor lock. However, wouldn't a carb spacer aid in this and be a simple fix, that is, if this is the goal?
Pyro
I recommend you change your whole fuel system. I have gone down the path of aftermarket carb pumps and have came across a better solution during my last V8 conversion. I would use the stock efi fuel pump (or like stock efi msd 2225) and an Aeromotive return style fuel pressure regulator set to 6 psi. The stock efi pumps are quiet and very durable and flow a lot of fuel, especially at 6 psi. After market carb fuel pumps are LOUD and don't last long (brushes wear out).
