winstonusmc
Just wanted to show it off. Just start the L26 for the first time on Megasquirt. Specs are: L26 MS3/3x Ford Mustang COP running 2.0ms dwell Nissan 6 channel igniter 82 L28ET distributer running the DIY trigger wheel Zietronix type MAP sensor (50psi) Right now its just idling good. Havent made a good ignition map yet, just running 15 degrees static right now. I just need a better timing curve.
motomanmike
Pretty cool set up. Have you driven it at all?
kaito
SOOOO awesome!!! You should be able to make a pretty agressive ignition map with it carbbed N/A like that. I would throw a big lumpy cam on it and rev it to the moon with that setup! Btw, if you make a cover for the dizzy I would be interested in seeing the end result. winstonusmc
I took it out for a spin last night, needs more timing. I really can't do much tuning till I get the carbs where they need to be with Afr. I am going to install dual wide bands in a couple months and get some knock ears to tune it. I like this setup due to its uniqueness.
2s2mad
Hello, That's really cool. Could you give me a list of parts that are required to setup something like this? I am currently running MS fuel only and I want to upgrade to something similar to your setup. If I can avoid using a 36-1 wheel on the crank pulley and use the distributor as my trigger that would be nice. I guess I need a 280ZXT distributor because the trigger wheel will not fit correctly in my 280Z dizzy. It seems to be much bigger than the ZXT dizzy, it looks like it is 70mm diam. compared to the 54mm. Would COP from 6 cylinder BMWcompatible with this kind of setup, it is easier to get in Europe than Ford. One more thing, what did you exactly do to swap the dizzy? Did you drop the oil pump or did you just swap the bottom end of the dizzy? Let me know Thanks Edited December 2, 2012 by 2s2mad
winstonusmc
i have driven it a lot since the swap and it is running pretty well. i have added a little more advance to make some good power too. as far as the parts required, they are listed up innthe first post. the oil pump drive had to be changed. it was dropped out the bottom wit the oil pump removed. i used the ford coils as the bracket i have was made for them. they are quite easily souced in th US and very cheap. i payed $60 for 8. you can use whatever coils you wish as long as you cannget themmto bolt up. as i said before, i am using the DIY trigger wheel that acts like a 12-1 crank wheel with a single cam trigger. LanceVance
Btw, if you make a cover for the dizzy I would be interested in seeing the end result. I second that! I've got a nice billet piece to cover the dizzy hole as I was planning on using a crank trigger wheel, but this is looking more and more appealing... EvilC
Like to see the dual wideband installed, I am thinking of doing the same with my L30 build. Looks great!
2s2mad
Hello,I have gathered some parts to build my wasted COP ignition. But could you tell me how you wired all this exactly? The BMW COP were too heavy and bulky (old design with 3 wires) so I got some 2 wires COP. I am not sure about how to wire the COP (+12V, ground...)? There is no permanent 12V with these like with the BMW COP which have permanent 12V, Ground and Trigger. Can you describe how they are connected to the Nissan igniter?Did you use a DIS6-02 from a 300ZX?I made a little drawing, is that correct? ThanksCheers
EvilC
2s2mad here is how I wired mine -
2s2mad
Hello,Thanks for the drawing I would have never though about wiring it that way.I have one concern though, it seems that EDIS is grounding the coils.Isn't the 300ZX igniter sending +12V instead?ThanksCheersSimon Edited December 21, 2012 by 2s2mad
winstonusmc
Mine is full sequencial though. I wired constant 12v to all six coils and the negative side is wired to the transistor unit. This Nissan diagram will show you the way its supposed to go.
winstonusmc
This setup has morphed into an L28ET, time to start a new thread.........
