wickedminded
I need help on how to properly set my fuel to air mixture it drives but it feels like its not driving how it should be feels like there is some restriction in accelerating which makes me think its running too lean on fuel but I don't know could you help me
BluDestiny
Well you should probably get an A/F gauge if you think the cause is the mixture. We can't feel over the internet....yet. Speaking of which, we are also not physic. What kind of car/engine/fuel system(efi or carbs, stock or not) are you using.
wickedminded
Lol okay its a 82 datsun 280zx non turbo stock L28 fuel injected
BluDestiny
ok the stock efi system is damn near bullet proof because it's so simple. Have you done any modifications? like shaving the intake or removing anything that could effect normal operation like the EGR valve? If not then I would start by checking all vacuum lines, then the electrical connections, then testing the resistance of sensors. You should literally be able to solve almost any problem related to the EFI with what I just said. It could also be something like your coil is dying, or you have blockage in your exhaust (old exhausts tend to rust and flake off impeding your exhaust flow), or even timing if its really bad. wickedminded
Fixed the timing it was 180 out the distributor is set right ill check those things you mentioned and it shouldn't be idling at 1000 rpms right
wickedminded
I haven't removed anything I got the car from someone who said they changed the head gasket shaved it ect ect I had to put it back together my egr valve is there and connected
BluDestiny
Do you know how much it was shaved? like just a simple mil job or was this to increase compression? It should idle at around 700-800rpm, The idle screw on your motor should be near the TB, but not on it, if you have a p79 intake.
wickedminded
I honestly have no clue this is my first car and the kid I got it from kinda did some messed up work dropping chain all of the above some how got timing 180 out just with a simple suppose to be change of head gasket I can do a compression test later
wickedminded
Its starts to idle at 650-700 and than a second later she's idling at 1000-1050
BluDestiny
what did you do to make it idle at 650? or does it start like that then jump to 1000?
wickedminded
Starts at 650 than jumps to 1000 than I was playing with the idle screw got the idle down a bit and than my sixth injector started leaking
BluDestiny
sounds like a lose vacuum line somewhere, or possible a sensor that is misreading and causing the computer to dump more fuel. Do you have any smoke out the back? Edited December 10, 2012 by BluDestiny
wickedminded
No smoke just the blow through when I first got it running 2 months back its clear as day unless its cold
BluDestiny
is your idle screw maxed in or out? either way check all your vacuum lines, then clean all the connections, then check/replace any sensors.
wickedminded
Its in about 65 percent I turned the screw to the left idle picked up turned it to the right and it slowed down and seemed like my injectors were pulsating faster
wickedminded
Plus another question what would cause my exhaust manifold to glow red?
cockerstar
Running lean will do that!
Leon
Actually, it's the opposite. Running rich and/or retarded timing will increase EGT and can cause the exhaust manifold to glow red.
wickedminded
EGT?
wickedminded
And my sixth injector started to squirt a bit and its on tight new o rings
