TomoHawk
Is anyone familiar with the KA engines and their 4 speed automatic transmissions to confirm or not that it could bolt onto the L28 engine? Those transmissons are much more available than the Maxima 4N71 units. thanks.
Bernardd
I have a KA bell housing in my garage and it won't bolt up to the L28.
Josh280z
Possibly you could use the L28 bellhousing like people do with the manual transmission.... I don't know enough about the automatic transmissions to say for sure though......
Xnke
Funny Bernard...I just bolted a KA bellhousing to the back of my L...but it's a manual trans bell. There is no difference in the bolt pattern or the dowel pin placement.
Bernardd
Huh weird that is. I'll have to look at it again. I'll try it again tomorrow if I can find the bell housing.
HowlerMonkey
What is the angle of the transmission vs the KA engine as compared to the L engine? I think there might be an angle difference of sorts.
Xnke
There is, the KA leans over to the driver's side, and the L to the passenger side.
BluDestiny
xnke, is the tilt so bad that people don't just bolt them up? I've read up on the ka tranny swap and why the bellhousing needed to be machine, but is that all just to correct the tilt? or do issues with clutch/flywheel and collar come up? Xnke
The tilt would put the shifter coming through the side of the trans tunnel, basically stabbing the driver in the knee, if they are built like I am. It is about 20 degrees off, so you do need to do the KA to L Bell swap for the manual trans. For the auto, I really don't know how much tilt the auto can handle.
