81 280zx turbo parts car: What's worth saving?

Recommended Posts

Ill be picking up an 81 280zx turbo tomorrow. Will be keeping the turbo motor and snowflake wheels for my 260z. Will be parting the rest of the car and sending it to the junkyard by the end of next week. I know nothing about the 280zx so I'm hoping you all can tell me what is worth saving to sell on the forums or that can be used for the earlier cars? Vehicle has t-tops as well.

Thanks!

Front strut tubes and brake calipers for the 510 guys, possible the hatch if its in really god condition. Same with the hood if it has the turbo scoop (just the scoops if the hood is trash) Depending on the interior, keep whatever looks good.

I'd say get on rock auto and compare part numbers. You want to keep as much as you can.  Even stuff you won't use. You may find browsing on forums someone needs something. I have exact same parts car and a 79 dd and that's what I did, compare part numbers. Parts are getting hard to come by to waste em. Hell I'm gonna shoot you a pm.

Rear diff and axles and mustache bar. If its a manual trans i'd keep the transmission and driveshaft as well.  Pull as many odds and ends screws, nuts, bolts and fasteners as you can.  Lots of guys will strip all the wiring that way when they patch or repair harnesses they have the factory striped right color wires on hand to patch in.  I'm a pack rat. When I abandon something i strip all I can.
