Clashez
Well im about to buy a turbo manifold from an 83 280zxt to install on my 1980 280zx. Now the question is are they compatible ? On the listing it says for 81-83 280zxt only .
dexter72
Check which cylinder head you have on your engine. Then do a search to see if the manifold will work. I will say yes it will.
BluDestiny
Yes it will. People have used Turbo manifolds with P79 heads, which are round port. They are made for square port heads. So they work on both round and square ports.
Clashez
I read a few posts now whats this about changing out the steering box to the turbo one. So the turbo dont hit it ? How true is that....
BluDestiny
There were 3 kinds of steering available for ZX's. Manual, power assisted, and recirculating. The last two are both power steering, and have a better ratio than the manual. The worst kind of steering (space saving wise) is the recirculating, because it has this big stupid black box thing on the fender. This is an issue when you use a turbo because if gets in the way. I have manual steering an don't find it hard at all to turn.

ArchetypeDatsun
That's a steering box, I had one in my 81 ZX when I swapped an 83 zxt drivetrain all I did was cut a small notch off the part that holds the wastegate actuator and was fine never gave me problems. Gollum
I do believe the '81 turbo had the same recirculating ball steering box... you should be fine.
BluDestiny
Yeah I don't know why I said fender, but that's the recirculating ball steering. Gollum I don't think they all came like that, I parted an 81 out and it had regular power steering.

Not fitment issues. EDIT: Just remembered I swapped the steering over, simply because I could since I had a whole donor car. Sorry. My memory must be slipping lately.
