280zex
I surf CL alot looking for datsuns. I find alot of times that how its posted that "280z's can fetch as much as 30,000$ on resale, im selling at 12,500" Makes me laugh! I know that some members here, like i have, spend way too damn much $$ on our "babys". I am curious tho, what would a 30,000$ 280z actually look like? Besides an actual collector piece. So like a swaped rb32tt, with AZ-z car coilovers, wilwood big brake on all 4, custom rims, roll cage, optimal guage set up, killer tires, fuel cell, clean paint. My guess would be 25 to 30k? Has any person here actually seen a factory spec, and correct low vin 280z go for 30k$? I never have, but i suppose if $$ was no issue, and the buyer "had" to buy it, then the rules change. PLATA
Z's go all over board, some are giveaways rust/rot specimens and some do real krazy $. Ebay and CL plus other car sites are a good thermometer for values. I see that there is a trend for clean Z's going overseas. Here in the Baltimore/Washington DC local car events they are a rarity . tooquick260
Yeah the numbers are crazy. My brother is back inthe market and is looking at twin turbo 300z's they are like 4000-25000. I was thinking of getting another z for a driver and make my current car more of a track car. Prices low on datsun z's are 2000 to a high of 20000$ Oh well.... daddydonuts
People in my area are playing the "rare" approach, but thanks to HZ and eBay which are very good markets to gauge the price of vehicles...and simply doing research on a technical forum such as this site will teach the average buyer to see what they are actually buying before dropping $$$ on a piece of junk. With a few years of selling experience on my part, I have learned not to buy from emotion...which is very hard to do in a niche market such as Z's. T-Bone028
Sadly, although Iconic, my personal opinion is that the Z is not super collectible like the mopars, Chevys, and Fords you see on Mecum Auto Auctions going for tens of thousands of dollars. I've even seen an episode where a clean 280z with low miles in excellent condition went for 12k-ish. That being said, a $25k Z has to be quite the show stopper for me to consider it as a fair price. I just don't think there is a big market for restoring/hot-rodding/reselling Z's here in the U.S....but if some of the Internet hearsay is true, maybe we can sell them to back to japan! PLATA
^^^ A 240Z IMO, will not reach the $$$$$$ that currently are commanding Cougar Eliminator / AMX / TR6, just to name a few cars that not long ago were not on the map as collector iron. But as these cars get in the price tag just for affluent aficionados, the Japanese old tin are the affordable toy bargains. T-Bone028
Btw, it would take $50K for me to sell my Z, or heaven forbid someone in my family needing medical help and I had no other option. These Z's ARE worth $25k-up... the rest of the world just hasn't realized it.
