devil280Z
I have made more progress. Sorry its taking me so long guys work has me pretty busy. I spent all of last month in Alaska. Anyways I have one made up, going to test fit it on my car to make sure we got the measurements correct. Once that's good I'm going to bang a few out and hopefully a few of you will be able to finish your projects. Would you guys be interested in powder coating also? Was thinking I might add that to the options. Let me know.
makaofox
Would it be easier to get one long tube and mandrel bend it? Saves you from welding 10x and reduces it to just 2? I could see you getting exhausted doing 10 welds each cross member lol. Powder coating is a good option.
devil280Z
We tried bending it but it wasn't working. Next best option, tig weld the shit out of it haha. Yeah I was swaetibg my ass off but hey what can you do?
makaofox
Better make it work! Looking out for you, its gonna get tiring real quick lol. How didn't it work? you weren't getting the right degree? Or it was to costly to use the bender? Nothing wrong with tig welding it, after your first few you'll figure out more efficient ways. johnc
That's bad, that's really bad. You cannot pie cut and piece a structural member like that. Find a fab shop and have them bend 10 tubes to the template I provided. Should cost you $200 at most.
devil280Z
Well I'm glad you said something. My friend that helped me make them does structural welding for airplanes and said it would be fine but I'd rather be safe than sorry. johnc
Let me know what airplanes he's welded on. I won't set foot on them.
Tony D
If anything was MADE to be done with bent tubing, it's frame-to-frame members. That is not something you weld up like that... Save maybe as an example to the bender people "to make something like this by bending"...
devil280Z
Got the tubes bent properly and welded 2 up today. Just need to cut off the fat and paint them.

MrJLogan
Looking good man, I'm definitely interested as well. Where are you working in Alaska? I work there too, in Prudhoe Bay.
devil280Z
Thanks, I'm looking forward to finally getting them put in my Z! I actually don't live in Alaska I was just out there for work in anchorage.
MrJLogan
Yeah I don't live up here either, I live in St. Louis. Edited September 23, 2014 by MrJLogan
johnc
FYI.... the part needs to be welded into the car. You should not powder coat it or paint it before welding. I always left that to the customer because its important to get a good weld to the frame rails and you have no idea what color they want to paint the engine compartment. devil280Z
Yeah I'm aware of that, I was just planning on painting/powder coating everything but what gets welded to the frame rails.
grayson260z
Are you still settling on about $400 per unit? I actually talked to you briefly on a Datsun page on Facebook. Which general area are you located so I can plan for shipping as well.
devil280Z
Yeah I remember. Yeah I'm thinking $400 per and in it Tucson AZ. I pretty much have 2 ready to go just need to be cleaned up. If I get any interest in them I will get them cleaned up and posted in the for sale forum or on facebook.
