Viva Datsun
So the 240 I just bought currently has an automatic, which I will refuse to accept as sufficient. It did come with a zx turbo motor and trans though. I've been looking all over google and the various forums and have yet to find a definitive answer to what exactly needs to be done to put the T5 up to an L24. I know I will need the flywheel, clutch kit, pilot bushing, all the hydraulics and pedals, drive shaft yoke, and some crossmember work. Question is, what has everybody found to be the best way to go about the xmember? Did Nissan use a special clutch in the turbo, or is it the same as the 2+2? Thanks, Pete
rturbo 930
Are you determined to use the BW T5? Look into using a 240sx KA 5 speed - aka FS5W71C. IMO it has better gear ratios, and it's an easier swap. Here's some good info on that swap: http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/240SX5spd/transmission.htm I realize this doesn't exactly answer your question... but I thought I'd put it out there. Tony D
Why on earth put it on the L24? Leave it bolted to the turbo engine, shorten your driveshaft, and do the normal "auto to manual" swap stuff and never think about the hamster-less wheel that is the L24! Viva Datsun
Well, I would like to use the T5, mainly because I already have it, and because I've heard it's at the very least an okay trans. The car is a long long way from being fully built so if the trans isn't perfect, that isn't that big of a deal to me yet. Three on the tree would be better than an auto to me. And as for Throwing the turbo engine in there; I don't want to do that yet. I know the L24 in the car will get me 800 miles back to utah, the turbo engine is just a long block that's been sitting outside for a couple years. I have no clue if it does anything but spin. And also, why would I want a N/A engine with lower compression? I can't imagine the turbo engine being very good without a turbo (I don't have the turbo intake, exhaust or any of those bits). I'll look into the KA trans swap as I just met a guy that does a lot of 240sx work here in town, and he said he has a lot of parts for Zs as well, but if the T5 can fit in without a crap load of head aches (I'm pretty much positive it will) then thats the route I'll go.
