The crank is handling about 1500 hp. In the article I read they didn't go into specifics about what was done to it. They only mentioned that it was a stock crank. I brought that up to show that the VG's crank, block, and bearings are able to take a lot of power. I'm sure a race team is able to afford an aftermarket crank, but I guess they found that the stock one can handle it. For top fuel cars they rebuild their engines after every run, but I think the teams in the class that the Escort Z runs in can use an engine for a weekend of racing. I'm sure it could last longer than that but they have the time to rebuild it and they're trying to win races so it makes sense to ensure that they have a fresh engine for every event. stony
a 1200 hp vg is hi maintenance. i talked to a guy who knows a guy running one in that area in california. They remove and replace all main bearings every 2 runs because they show significant wear

It wouldn't surprise me that they have to rebuild it frequently. While it's rare to find a street driven 1200 hp car, twinturbo.net does have a few members who are pushing around 600 rwhp on stock internals. A guy up in NY is running high 10's, low 11's on his internally stock VG30DETT.
Guest zline
wasnt questioning the internals per say just the stock crank at 1200 hp =)
