ratedZ
Got my Auto Meter Phantom white faced boost gauge! I was reading the instructions and I have a couple of questions. First I have to somehow attach the nylon tubing to a sealing nut...on the diagram they show the tubing going through the "ferrule" which then holds the tubing inside the sealing nut. Am I supposed to crimp the "ferrule" to keep the tubing from sliding out of it and the sealing nut? It looks like it's the obvious thing to do but it doesn't say in the book and I don't want to screw it up. Second, on the other end of the of the tubing which attaches to the turbo there is another set of sealing nut, ferrule which then attaches to an 1/8" NPT adapter...then that hooks up to an 1/4" NPT adapter...soooo here's my question, where to I screw those adapters in to? I thought all I had to do was hook up a T fitting on one of the vacuum lines....any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't wait to see how much boost I'm actually running. SleeperZ
The ferrule grips the tube when the nut is tightened. If you pre-crimp it, it will never seal. I tapped my intake manifold for the 1/8" NPT and ran a direct tube to my boost gauge. I'm sure you can dig up some hardware to splice in to an existing vacuum line - the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line comes to mind. ratedZ
Can anyone add to tapping onto a vacuum line. That would be the route I will be going with as I'm affraid to make holes on my intake. Thanks.
John Scott
If you mess up your ferrule, don't buy a whole new line kit. You can buy them in bulk from a well supplied auto store. If you use it, don't over tighten. JS
Sean 83ZXT
ratedZ, What I did on mine was simply take the plastic line into the engine bay put a 3" piece of silicone vaccum line over it and put that line onto a t-fitting. I then wiretied every connection to make a good seal.
Cody 82 ZXT
What I did on mine was to put a new nipple on the back of the gauge that I stole off an old boost gauge. I would get creative and try to find the right brass fittings NAPA or something. That way you could use vacuum hose all the way. I really don't like that plastic tubing for some reason. Arn't these new Graemlins cool!
