i have a 1974 260z and i did the 240z carbs, manifold, and linkage swap and the car before i did the swap had a flodding carb but would start then stall because of flooding now it won't even start it will just make the noise that the starter is turning but it will not go all the way to run, and i have tried all the usual stuff:pull the lead wire from distributer and no spark so i replaced the coil still nothing i have a new battery and i have made sure all the vaccum line are hooked up but i don't know what to do now please help i just want it to run till i can afford to do the 350 swap then i will sell the enogine with the trany and the new carbs please help any advise at al would really help

Are you getting power to the coil. Check the power wire to the coil with a volt meter or test light with the ign. on.

If you are, check if the 'plug wire' from the coil to the dizzy is getting power. Just keep tracing down the line until you narrow things down. Have you checked the points and condensor. Replace them anyway, they are cheap.

dizzy is slang for the distributor... the object near the front of the L-series engine with the spark plug wires coming into and out of it. (7 of them in fact)

Obviously if you aren't getting spark, this is where your problem is. Track down the reason you aren't getting anything. Use a volt meter and see if your coil is getting power, and work from there...

i am not car dumb i just have never herd it called that but i have checked the power to the coil and there is volts to all 3 spots on the resister with the test light but there is no spark coming out of the coil and i just bought the coil because that is what i thought was the problem but that was not it then i turned the timing on the distributer and that did not do anything so i don't know what to do now

If you have voltage to the coil but no spark, your points are not operating. Check the ground of the "dizzy", and the operation of the points - they should open and close with engine rotation. If you do happen to stop the rotation when the points are closed, and you register 0 volts at the coil -, but still no spark, you may have a bad coil.

i really dont like points. i had a 240 with bad points and the previous owner stripped all the screws for them and used self tapping screws, suggest that you go for a 280zx distributor with the e12-80 igniter, i did it and my old car ran really good immediately. have one for sale if youre interested.
