Guest umm
I have a fuel pump that makes a lot of noise all the time when the engine is running. Is this common or should I start looking for a new fuel pump? I have a 76 280 w/efi (stock)
Guest zfan
I do not know about the stock fuel pump but the holley blue pump I have makes a bunch of noise. Wrapped it with rubber tubing to quiet it down some. Mike
Ray
define alot of noise ???? The stock pumps do make some noise but if if it is more than a hum I would look for another pump. One of the best solutions I have seen latly on modified cars is to do what the MFG's have done and put the pump in the tank. Makes it a lot quieter and depending on what type of FI you are running the pumps are a lot cheaper than a stand alone type pump. I have seen several of the GM TBI pumps used on carb settups with the really good bypass type regulator or fuel log. They put out 8-12psi and will flow some fuel. Good luck...... fl327
mine makes a real loud hum, but i like it! not stock though, porsche 911 turbo pump offroad spec, pumps!!!
Two40MuscleZ
Mine humms too! It's kinda like a B-52 making ready for take off! Gotta love it though. The idea about isolating the pump in an enclosure is a great one. I will have to give that one some thought. Comps, VAN
Tim240z
Try the radiator mounts from Mercedes. They are 2 studs joined by a rubber insulator. That will at least preclude any of the vibration from getting to the chassis. Tim
blueovalz
Carter (carbs) sells kits that include 3 isolators very similar to the Mercedes ones mentioned above. the studs are a 10-32 with a rubber cylinder (about 3/4" in dia and about 3/4" long) vulcanized between the two studs. I cut the noise level down on my Holley pump to about 1/2 the level it was before.
Guest umm
Thanks for the input guys. It's a stock fuel pump, looks like original equipment. It makes a sustained humming noise so on your advice I'll start shopping for something else. Thanks again!
