  1. I just posted an update on the MuscleZ fender flairs. If you type in Custom 1-off flairs on HybridZ it should come up. It's in the body mod section. Any questions just leave a post. Enjoy. VAN
  2. It's been literally years since I last was on Hybrid. However, here's some pics of rear flairs that I just finished for the MuscleZ. Time was not a factor so its been a slow undertaking to complete. Kudos go to Terry Oxandale (BlueOvalZ) is a masterwiz at design and fiberglassing. Terry and I have been friends for years and was kind enough to advise me on several of his techniques. The fronts should be completed wthin the month (hopefully). This project is on going and meticulous, but that's what building a custom is all about! Here is my WebSite which features a few more projects. Any questions just leave a comment and I'll get back to you. Enjoy! http://assets0.hubgarage.com/mygarage/Two40MuscleZ
  3. has not set their status

  4. Glare factor is the primary cause for the legality aspect. Street vehicles will come under that VC whereas, show vehicles come under a different classification. Neither are exempt from citation however.
  5. Davy: I just had a short telecon with "OX", and I am going to give Ernie a call to see how he is doing. For all of us who knew of Ernies' whit and wisdom, we shall all certainly miss his commentaries. Ernie aka RacerX was like one of the "Original Gangstas' here on this site. Owen aka God Father, DavyZ, Ox BlueOvalZ, SuperDan, Tim240Z, Pete Paraska, MileKelly, JC @ BetaMotorsports all have played a major role in the formation, maintenance, and continuation of this site. The new fish on the block, have much to learn and this site can benefit them greatly. However, to those of you who do not understand or agree with this sites Mission Statement you can piss off! This site is not a bashing ground, and I am certain before any more menbers become disenchanted, or decide to opt out because of someones rudeness most if not all of the above will come to their aid. Be personable, be professional, but most of all be a constructive part of this site. Thanks to all of the old timers for all they have done and continue to do for HybridZ. VAN, aka Two40MuscleZ President, HybridZ SoCal Chapter
  6. You are correct using the floral foam. After discussing the application with BlueOvalZ, Terry gave me a crash course on making custom flairs. After applying the green floral foam, use a sure form shaper to rough out the shape. Sand using progressively finer sandpaper. You do not have to cover the foam with duct tape, metal tape or for that matter any other. One characteristic of floral foam is that is is unaffected by resin. You can go right over the top. After completing the resin, kitty hair and/or cloth, use a finishing resin for final top coats. Sand down hardened resin until smooth. Prime with a high build filler/primer then color sand and block out your finished flair. If you use a white type foam, it may have a reaction to the resin...but, not the green floral foam. When you are done, simply wash away the foam with acetone. That will eat away at the foam, but leave you with a finished flair, already in place and ready to paint. Here are some pics of the Two40MuscleZ using the green floral foam. Also check out Terry Oxandales' site and his BlueOvalZ. Good luck. VAN
  7. 1971, dating twin cheerleaders at a rival High School. Their parents grad present to them was a silver 240! Sold My '55 Chevy Belair 2 dr hdtp (like a fool) and ordered one. Came home on military leave after a waiting list of 5 months. Christmas came early that year when I picked up the Z one week prior to that. Still have the car today, aka: "Two40MuscleZ" but its built a bit different with a 409 cid and over 650+hp. I also picked up Lone's old Z a while back and did a total rebuild aka: the "Orange Crate". I've just ordered a 6-71 roots style blower for it. The O.C. was recently featured in the Jan '07 Issue Super Street. Was hoping to feature them both at this years JCCS. Terry, informed me that I was the first person online to register for the show. Unfortunately, I was recently injured at work and I'm doubtful I will have them completed by the show deadline date. Next year! VAN
  8. Brian: Should have taken the Cite...at least that way you could have gotten her name! LOL VAN
  9. Simple...it's a drug car! I'm sure there's a way to get into it from underneath! Did it have a back seat? LOL
  10. Brian: It's Code Enforcement that is giving you headaches, not the "Cops". The problem is that you can see this car from the street, and its an isore. What you need to do is place a cover over it and put it behind your side gate or in the garage. If its not visible from the street, there's really no problem. Someone on your block complained or a Code Ofcr. just happened to notice it as he was driving by. If you are using it for parts, then start taking a few off and storing it in your garage. Just get it out of sight. Thats all you really need to do, after all its a donor car isn't it? VAN
  11. This is on my daily driver aka: The Orange Crate
  12. Jack...Your ticket should indicate a court date. Make sure you appear WITH your Proof of Insurance. Once varification that insurance was in force when the traffic stop occurred, then the Judge should dismiss the case. He may needle you a bit about keeping a copy in the vehicle. But in most cases it will be dismissed. Now the real question; what was the reason for the traffic stop? The Officer had to have PC (Probable Cause) in order to stop you. We just don't pull someone over for the hell of it!
  13. I've read the posts and it comes down to either you like it or not. Now there are two destinct designs. The one that is center cut and the one that is more of the TransAm style with the cut outs above the door leaving a small center section in tact. Evildky is correct with respect to the structural support parts. In 1973 I had a sun/ moon roof installed which is larger than most and has a smoked plexy roof section that is contoured to the existing stock roof line/profile. It manually slides in and out of the anodized black aluminum frame. It also features an air deflection wing that slides into the front to deflect the air cavatation on the ears. Opens up the entire car and within 10 secs. I can button it up water tight. It does not detract from the lines or profile of the car. In most cases you don't even see it unless you are standing right next to it and it is a very clean installation. However, the company went out of business years back. But, having one in good working condition, it wouldn't take a whole lot to use it as a master and start knocking them out. I've just started my second company, MuscleZ Motorsports, and I will be featuring some custom dresser parts for the 70-73 240's to start. I should have my car on display at this years JCCS, and will kick off the business there. Currently working on a catalogue and promotional ad slicks. Anyway, I have always loved my sun roof and it has been an intrugal part of the cars accessories. Its just a matter of preference. VAN
  14. This ones for Ernie: You and I are more like brothers than friends. From High School to the present, you have always been one of honesty, integrity and character. Those traits are unknown to the "bottom feeders" who have no respect for anyone but themselves and abuse those "Pearls of Wisdom" that you share so freely. You are highly regarded by your peers, and for those of us "Old Farts" that have been on this site for more than a hot minute, a word of encouragement to the "New Fish"...This site was spearheaded by individuals who think out of the box; who excel in design strategies and application methodology. If your going to be an active participant in this venture, then do so as someone who has principals, and not one who indulges in grade school antics. There is no room on this site for that crap! Mike, thanks for the Backup. If you don't have the balls to contact Mike, you definately don't want to contact me! Ernie be advised you are always welcome on this site, to offer the wisdom and talents you are blessed with. I am sure I not only speak for myself but Owen, Mikelly, Super Dan, Pete and Ox, and a host of other members...just read the posts! It will be a pleasure for all of us to have your continued participation. Thanks Ernie. Enough said. VAN HybridZ SoCal Chapter, Enforcer
  15. 1st make yourself a template; cardboard, construction paper, etc. exact size if possible. Transfer outline after placement on hood. Removing the hood maybe a consideration depending on your method of cutting and accessability to the area you are removing. 1st choice Plasma cutter; it's the best and quickest, or any of the following: small cutting wheel attached to a die grinder, air saw or jig saw with appropiate blade, air nibbler and/or air shear. Under cut your outline and finish grind to fit. Go slow, take your time; it's not a race. Touch up any jagged areas with a hand file(s) flat and rat tail or air sander. Have fun! VAN
  16. Bart: Look at it this way...your not a year older, just a bit wiser! Enjoy your day. Compliments, VAN
  17. Hey Bart: Obvioiusly, they need a new spray guy! Remember, this is CA where most of the outrageous customs come from; not KY. Fades and blends are NOT a complicated operation to master. You need a few basics under your belt, good equipment, and knowing you...just a little practice, as you pick things up rather quickly. If you need some help or have a question get a hold of me or just stop by, since your only 20 mins. away! My new spray booth is almost complete. Finally, getting ready to retire from the Dept., going to hang up my badge and switch guns for one that sprays something a little less lethal! Began pinstriping again, getting back into shooting customs and introducing those "Killer Paint" LaValle style airbrushed flames to the Inland Empire. The "Orange Crate" should be ready to shoot in a few weeks. Look forward to seeing you at the JCCS show this fall. So, let me know and I will set things up when your ready. Buds, VAN
  18. Having sex while driving in and of itself is not illegal...however, if it causes you to loose control of the vehicle...well, thats another story. All the Ofcr. did was run a 28 & 29 on your plate which only takes about 45 secs; and when that came back with no priors you were good to go. And what happened to you is not out of the ordinary...whats really funny is when you make a traffic stop...the girl is in the middle of handling business, and refuses to stop...Oh yah, seen that a few times too. The look on the guys face is a Kodak Moment, thinking...I'm going to jail, I'm going to jail...LOL Only in Californication!
  19. Ernie: I keep telling ya...30 second time delay and a 1/4 stick of C4. Works every time. Sorry about your car. Give me a call if you get a chance. Hey Davy!
  20. Turn signal switches on the early Z's are very poorly designed. They use a positive ground in some of the circuitry, and it can become a nightmare. Buy the least expensive part frist. That certainly is not the headlight cluster. Check for wire connections and especially bad grounds. If all else fails you may have to reharness your wiring system...which in and of itself is not hard and is really the best way to go. Had the same delima as you with the lighting, and it certainly was a pain. I rewired the lightsystem, also purchased a new harness system from a Co. called: "It's A Snap" which you can find on the web. Price was 1/2 half that of Painless, and it is basically the same. I know because my son purchased a Painless and once he saw mine he liked it better, especially the price. Datsun has not made replacement wiring harness for some time, so unless you come across one thats decent to use, you don't have too many options. But, then again you would be dealing with 35+ year old wiring and thats just problems waiting to happen also. Hope that helps? VAN
  21. I apopogize for not posting this earlier...I'll be brief; Clear mid afternoon, traffic med to light, heading Eastbound 60 Frwy. thru Ontario. I'm doing 70 in the #2 lane, when Two "clowns" pull up next to me in the #1 lane driving a early 70's Goat (GTO). They shadowed me for the better part of a half mile. So, I conveniently unholstered my off duty weapon and laid it on the passanger seat...you never know! Anyway, the driver down shifts and starts goosing the gas. I just looked over and smiled. The passanger yells out "you think your fast"? I laughed and shook my head no. He starts to laugh, and says that peace of rice s**t, go for it...and thats just what I did...I held up my badge and told him to pull over. If I only had my camera phone out because the look on his face was pure Kodak Moment! He slams on the brakes, almost gets rear ended, swings in behind me and immediately exits on the first off ramp. Now thats comedy! I laughed all the way home. In fact, I'm still laughing.
  22. Well that's it...I'm shaving off those interior door handles...at least on the passanger side!!! Thanks great story line.
  23. I have found this to be true; If your car looks even remotely quick, some idiot out there is going to challenge you...its just that simple! Its as though, he has to prove something to himself. There is always going to be another car just a bit quicker and a bit cleaner than yours. However, if you build a Z, or any car for that matter, with an excess of 650+ HP, there is no race! Most cars on the street are warmed over 350cid "Posers" with maybe a cam for attitude, and a set of exhausts that make them sound mean and throaty. So they bluff and have the need to race. Thats just dumb!
  24. Hey guys...listen to the wisdom of tim240Z and Dan Juday. Thats all I have to say!
