Lockjaw
How do you know the pipes don't leak? I have that problem with my intercooler lines I was fabbing up, but I am a welder in training. Last one didn't leak though. Looks pretty good there Tim.

240Z Turbo
How do you know the pipes don't leak? Why would they leak? They are all TIG welded. Clean material makes for a clean weld. Are you refererring to the IC piping?
Lockjaw
I was referring to MY intercooler piping, but I was wondering how you make sure you don't have leaks. I guess part of my issue is flux core mig versus tig, but do you check it somehow? Is there a secret way that would help me, I just fill mine up with water and see if they leak, but that is messy. Drax240z
Lockjaw, if you are TIG'ing it is really easy to tell if you have pinholes or not. You have way more control, and more visability than MIG welding. As for welding tubing/pipe, it sucks pretty much. Your best bet is just finding a really comfortable position, and try to spin the piece you are welding as you go if it is convenient. I find the more I stop and start a bead with Mig, the more likely I am to have a hole.
Guest JAMIE T
The TIG RULES! It is my favorite method of welding. I did some IC piping for a 1st gen DSM, and it turned out great. I'll be making a 3" exhaust for a turbocharged B13 SE-R Sentra in the next couple of days. All stainless.

240Z Turbo
No offense, but the flux core stuff is hard to make right. You should be able to mig with no problems as long as the heat is set right. Don't be afraid to use the trigger to stop/start so you don't get too much heat. Also, you should be pushing the weld as it gives better control in my opinion. However, with TIG you have no worries and are assured a good weld. Lockjaw
So you like to push the weld huh? That just seems weird to me, although I have done it. What I really hate about the flux core is the splatter. Oh well, ,my welds may not be pretty, but if they work, I guess I will take it. The welder has saved me a ton of time, and money though. Now if I just had a lift, life would be good. Nice looking work there James. When are you going to be running again?
