Xander
Hi everyone, I have a simple question. I am going to convert my 260Z with flattop SU's to fuel injection. I am thinking of using the megasquirt or SDS if I can get the money together. Can I just go out and find an intake from a 280Z or do I have to built my own intake? It would be a lot easier if I could just buy the whole lot with injectors and everything. thanks, Xander
SleeperZ
I believe you can use a 280Z manifold, however your head will no have the notches in the intake ports to support the spray pattern from the manifold. Either switch or modify the head.
Xander
What do you mean notches in the intake? I Have never seen a injection manifold for the L series engine.
SleeperZ
I don't have any pictures, but the FI manifolds mount the injectors on top angled down at the intake valve. To enable this, there is a half-moon notched out of the top of the intake port where the manifold mounts. The earlier heads, E31 and E88 were carbed and don't have this feature. I don't think it'd be tough to port it out though. Make sure to get an FI gasket as well.
z-ya
Get a donor 280Z engine with an N42 head, and either swap the entire thing, or just swap the head and intake. You are going to need injectors, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator too (which can come from the donor car). Pete
Lockjaw
Not to mention the ecu and wiring harness. Plus a fuel pump. You can have the head worked over to work, but it would be easier to get an N42 and use it, not to mention it has bigger valves.
