z ya
I have a friend that is selling a bad ass 406 and wondering what you guys thought about this idea I have..... First off specs on the 406 2 bolt 400 block Fully ported Brodix 215 cc heads Ported brodix intake 2.08/1.60 valve 1.5/1.6 roller rockers 10.7 comp ratio 850 demon carb Forged steel Eagle crank 6 inch h beam rods 7/16 arp bolts gear drive solid cam 246/525 moroso oil pan complete from carb to pan Also comes with Th400 auto/fully man valvebody and TCI 3500 stall He said he has less 1k miles on it and he thinks its just too much motor for him. Hear is the deal he told me he would let me have the whole thing for 3500 bucks with the tranny! I then figured I could sell my motor and sell it with the TH400 for say 3000. Then I would have 500 bucks into the swap!! What do you think??
Guest zfan
Sounds like a good deal but what is wrong with the 355 with afr heads that you already have? Just curious? That 406 will not be real street friendly I think..could be wrong though. Mike
Mudge
With heads like that, I'm assuming you want to wind the thing out a bit. I would be nervous about going over 7k on a 2 bolt block, even beyond 6,500 is a little risqué for long term durability (if you road race). Just some thoughts from my small brain
DavyZ
Do it, z ya, do it! But seriously, have you heard this thing run? It sounds like a great motor with gobs of torquey power, but do you need that kind of power? Man, I do! I like the idea of a 400 with 6 inch rods--I get goosebumps just thinking about it. It would be one heck of a motor, and plenty of fun in the Z. I have never ridden in your car, but from the sounds of your 355, I thought it was enough. Only you know what you need. Just keep it hush hush from the wifey Davy
fl327
do it. a two bolt is fine unless you start spraying on it and holding 6500 for extended periods of time at the same time. if you know its built like that and the guy selling it is for real, sounds like a good way to go fast. Tim240z
Don't even let the 2-bolt block effect your decision. My ran a 8 second Chevy II back in the days with a blower and a 2 bolt block. Never had a problem. Tim
z ya
Its a tough choice to decide what to do. My motor runs great its just you know the "great deal " thing you feel like you have to do! I finally have the money to get my car painted and now I am tripping on this motor deal. I will mull it over and decide what to do..... Guest Anonymous
Listen.....I don't know about you guys but when a fellah who has a modified engine tells me it's too strong for his tastes I smell something! Of course I don't know the whole story but why don't he just fix it like he wants instead of the hassle of a different engine for himself? Ya. I smell something. Maby I'm just paranoid.....but I wouldn't be that way if I wasn't sure everybody was out to get me.....LOL Make an offer? I would (for my own protection) assume a rod going out or a cracked block/head etc. and base the purchase on salvagable parts if the deal was not what I expected. I would not take anyones word for it. Once you pass the cash the deal is done.
