Mikelly
My luck isn't going good lately, although the news about Donna's health was encouraging today...More on that and the rest of my soap opera later... Grumpy I need to know what aluminum or steal head will fit on a 350 TBI Truck motor from 1993... Got the truck back from inspection today, and it has a leaking head gasket... I'm not gonna yank it and replace the gasket if there is a BETTER head out there to put on. Might as well upgrade, right??? I have a crane compucam #114122 with mathing springs... What can I put on this 93 block??? I need to do something asap.... Just found this out 15 minutes ago... Mike
grumpyvette
whats the casting # on those heads if its 10239906 or 12558062 there vortec heads and with some minor port work they a very good truck heads
Mike C
'93 will be TBI and not Vortec which showed up on the '96 trucks, but I think you can buy an aftermarket intake for the Vortec heads and your TBI stuff. That's the way I'd go. The Vortecs are about $425 a pair assembled and are an awesome truck/street head. Othwerwise, the Dart SR torkers are a good head for a truck as well. They are all iron I know, but my preference for a truck head.
Mikelly
I'm not sure what the number on the head is, as it is dark and I've thrown in the towel for the night. I'll pull it tomorrow afternoon when I get home. The motor is all stock except for the cam. It is a throttlebody injected 2 bolt block motor with a 700R4 trans. I was trying to remember IF I re-torqued the heads after the rebuild a year ago January, but for the life of me I can't remember doing it. Fortunately I see no oil in the water, and no water in the oil. Looks as it is leaking to the outside of the gasket external to the block passages. Nothing on this motor was changed internally after the rebuild, just the cam...It has centerbolt valve covers. I went to Scoggin Dickey's website and those SR Torquers and the fast burn aluminums are NICE and CHEAP!... I hope one or the other fits my application! Just did put a new 3inch Dynomax and tailpipe on it too, darn it... Mike
grumpyvette
the SR torqers are good heads for your application and they will most likely not require a change to a new intake. the vortecs flow about the same but if you are not useing vortec heads now the intake on the truck now won,t fit them, if the head gasket is the only problem with your engine why dont you just get a 3 angle valve job, pocket port the heads and reinstall them with a new gasket set. Mikelly
Well thats a good question... Those heads were cleaned up and had a three angle job on them a year ago this past January... Would I not gain enough extra Umph by going to the Torqer SR? I would have to pay someone to port them, as I can ruin wonderfull heads in about 15 minutes and I'll likely pay someone to do the head gasket UNLESS I'm upgrading to a better head... Time is short around my household right now, or believe me, I'd be tearing the intake and guilty head off tomorrow after work... grumpyvette
TRUCKS SPEND 99.999% OF THERE TIME IN THE IDLE-4500RPM RANGE WHERE A SET OF SLIGHTLY WORKED ON STOCK HEADS WILL WORK REASONABLY WELL , spending money on high priced heads for a heavy truck with most of its time spent in that rpm range is not a great return on your money. Mikelly
Well I just spoke to my mechanic that does inspections and small stuff for me, and the cost to pop both heads, have them checked at the machine shop, new valve seals, and re-assembled, with all fluids and back to me by Friday will be $1000-1100..... Damn. Let me ask the stupid question...What is the likelyhood of me re-torquing the heads and stopping the leak? It isn't showing in the water or oil at this point...I mention this since the mechanic brought it up as a possibility.... Mike
grumpyvette
the chance of retorqueing the heads and stopping the leak is just a little bit worse than your chances of your wife takeing a second mortgage and getting a second job so she can get the money to get you a mistress! (SORRY COME BACK TO EARTH) pull the heads and do it correctly
Mikelly
OK, I needed that...My co-worker came into my office to see what was so damned funny.... So you think I could really sell that to Donna???? I'll drop it off tonight...I'm NOT in the mood to do this... Mike
