I want to bring on the hoses in my 260z, but i want to keep the handling, what do the Z cars handle like with a big V8 in them, i have been thinking about the RB25DET but people have been telling me i can get a lot more power for my $$ with a V8 ....

With a few aluminum pieces (at least a intake, but preferably heads and water pump, I only have the intake myself aluminum) and the battery relocated, theres no reason why it shouldn't handle.

As mentioned mines a bit on the heavy side, but my handles actually pretty good. Steering response is pretty quick, if you push it in a turn going in, it'll definitely push, but once you get into the gas again you can turn it into full blown oversteer using just the gas.

Thats pretty much stock on my car, I do have some Sus. Tecnique springs and MSA sway bars, but those are typical L6 mod's too. I also run only 205/55/15 tires, so I'm pretty impressed with how it handles. I havn't been in the canyon's with it, but I know it'll come out of a corner with just about anything on the road (ok, with a few high dollar exceptions).

If a guy were to put on coil over shocks with spring rates more suiting the V8 swap and better struts, I think it'll hold its own very nicely.

Just an opinion of course, but I think the only thing you'll be concerned with is how FAST the corners come up, time for new brakes... ;)

Regards,

Lone

Hehehe that's almost like asking which religion's right! I am much different than most in that I prefer light springs and really big adj. sway bars. I find that combo to be very drivable on the street and lots of fun for autocrossing too!

Demidion, do you off the top of your head remember your spring rates? I've got kind of the opposite problem than most, the car I bought for my V8 project has some *very* stiff progressive springs on it, I want to ease off for comfortable street driving (and I don't want the whole car to *bang* every time hit an expansion joint).

Unfortunetly I don't remember my spring rates. I am cheap though so I tend to use stock springs and cut a coil and a half which gets the spring rate right where I like it. If you have the money get a coilover kit with a few pounds heavier spring and you should be fine. There are a few people on the list that sell them, I am certain if you give them a call they would set you up with exactly what you need!

Oh lord, the bones come falling out of the closet on that one... Jeez, appologies to Kim: Idaho Z car we later talked in a Email about that thread, I took a pretty hard stance in that discussion and as such got the discussion closed down a bit.

Anyway up until we got into that whole downybrook it was a good discussion. Kim if your still here and reading this, once again sorry, that thread got way to emotional cuss.gif and I got caught up in it and in hindsight overreacted with my post. malebitchslap.gif

To bad words are'nt something you can stuff back into your mouth.. :D

...Lone, everyone had an opinion, and there was enough gasoline coming from elsewhere to ignite that one. For my part, I offer an apology ONLY from the stance of administrator. As adminstrators and Moderators of the board we are expected NOT to start wars on the board. For whatever reason, I didn't take a middle ground stance on that issue... Although I didn't know Kim's personal legal battles with Mike Knell, I took a stance that was hardlined because I believed in it from an engineering stand point and still do. I made my point, and rather than ignore the postings of others, I to allowed it to get emotional and heated. Guilty as charged....

Still MUCH valuable info in that thread... LOTS of good info!

Well, that thread was heated, but like others said, some good info. The Scarab vs Setback (JTR and to some extent MSA) engine placement pros and cons came out. You have to read the entire thing to get all the info, but it's worth a read.

Lone, Mike, everyone. If we can't learn by our mistakes, then we are destined to repeat them. I don't think anyone can say they're perfect or can't learn something technical, social or diplomatic...

For what it is worth - the LS-1 aluminum block 350 is actually lighter than the stock L28 I-6. With it setting mostly behind the front axle it should give the car very neutral handling and definitely not overload the stock suspension. I'm personally going with the LS-1 and fully expect the resultant hadling to be at least equal to the original.
