Sumo
Yep I got a free truck! My friend bought a new 02 Dakota V-6 and helped him go there and drive home his old 69 chevy. Then i asked what are you going to do with ol' red , he just handed me the key. woo hoo! The truck could use a rebuild but it runs and drives good. Beside free is free! It's got a 400 small block and a 400 tranny. Anyone here know if this thing is supposed to have 8mm wires and what plugs and gap it should have? Also what size oil filter should be on it. According to the casting numbers it supposed to be a 400sbc 4 bolt, 70-73. Sorry about the pics, its from an el cheapo Jam cam i borrowed. jeromio
Damn. That is a nice truck. I really really like those 69/70 Chevy/GMCs. There's a surprising number of them on the road and they ain't cheap to acquire either. Last I checked it took $5k to pick one up in decent running condition. Really nice ones go for $10-15K. The only real downer is the in cab fuel tank - but that's easily fixed.
redruM_0381
SWEET! I also have a 69' 3/4 ton (ol' blue) thats the donor vehicle for my 280z. I've had the truck for 11 years of reliable daily service, and its getting tired with approx 336k miles. But the motor isnt, so its going in the Z. Mine is a 350, with the original 4 bolt block. Thats right folks... 336k miles on the original block and still running strong. my motor has a HUGE canister style filter. If yours doesnt have the newer style filter adapter I would presume it has the same "toilet paper tube" style insert that goes in the canister. They are a pain in the butt, but work really well. As for the plugs n wires... eh not sure... I have newer heads off a 78' with the peanut plugs, and an HEI, which works sweet compared to points. Guest Anonymous
Great trucks, look really slick lowered down too. Your right Pete, the next model really IMHO sucked in the styling dept by comparison, didn't know about they're rust problems but can believe it. Guest Anonymous
I got a free truck too but it would not make a paint blister on your truck. I am waiting for the miracle to get paid for dragging IT home. IT has a new radiator and 350 and well oiled all the way to the tailgate. pparaska
Nice score! I also think that GMC/Chevy screwed up when they changed from the 68-70 body style. Those have been my favorite for a long time. Plus the following model was a TOTAL RUST BUCKET.
Sumo
Geez! $5000 for a decent running one? Wow i didnt think these trucks were worth anything. That explains one guy offering $1200 out of the blue and another guy wanting to know if it was for sale. Jeromio is right the tank at the back seat is a downer, not enough leg room for me. I checked out the cab and found typical rust on the corners but only minor ones, frame is straight, cab floor still there front suspension still great. Although the 4 drum brakes really scare me. The engine has a Holley contender Intake and the former owner just put a regular quadrajet on it. It also has an HEI distributor on it and that's the reason why i thought it should have 8mm wires instead of the 7's it has right now. Im thinking of just buying a Carter with an electric choke so i wont have to sit there for 15 minutes in winter time for it to warm up. The oil filter is a regular Delco but i just wanted to see if all 350 400 sbc used the same type. I think the engine was "built" at one time but age has taken its toll but it barely burns oil and the tranny still shifts. Right now i just need a good hauler and being a 6 lug C10 with a running drivetrain is great for now. I guess this makes me an official Texan, although there's not a lot of chinese guys driving around in 69 Chevy trucks around here, maybe a Toyota 4 runner or Tundra. Also I might go out and get a spitoon for the dash.
Guest Locutus
I had a a 72 I loved that truck. Those trucks typically rust around the windsheild its difficult to repair but worth it. I wish I had never sold mine, I picked it up for 500 bucks. Now they are either very expensive or have that rust thru around the windsheild and top to the cab. I would love to have another one. I think they look best no trim all one color. Mike

QWKDTSN
Hmmm.... sorry to be a downer guys but I guess I don't really see the charm... it's just a big, ugly, old honkin American truck to me. But I guess free is free I guess you can get it running and sell it for a little cash.
spotfitz
Being that I've been looking for something just like that here recently, but couldn't believe some of the prices they were asking for rust buckets nowadays, I would be more then willing to come take it off your hands. I'll come pick it up tomorrow after work, with cash in hand
Mike C
Man, that's a SMOKIN' deal. I got a free truck also, but I had to drag it to the farm and dump it. Check out www.67-72chevytrucks.com I know their are 4 or 5 of us here on the board with trucks, too! Be careful, 67-72 GM trucks are addictive like Z cars
