Guest Anonymous
I am a newbie to the site but i am about to try a motor switch. My question... is there a supercharger that will fit with this type of motor swap that will fit under the stock hood? By the way I love the site...i just found it last nite and it is the best thing since slice bread! keep up the good work!!
dmyntti
You could use a paxton or vortec type supercharger as they mount to the front of the engine instead of on top like a roots type. You can use a kit to put a Vortec on a carb but Fuel Injection is better for supercharging in my opinion. It can be done it just takes money and fabrication. Guest Aaron
It would be extremely difficult to do that under the stock hood. My dad just built a '84 ZX with a 400SBC. The engine is solid mounted, about 1.5" clearance between the oilpan and the crossmember. He is using a Performer knockoff intake with a QJet carb with a NOS plate below it. There is less than 1" clearance between the top of the carb and the hood. He mounted a Hillborn style scoop to the hood and used a plastic spacer to connect the scoop to the carb. If you are thinking of a Roots style blower, It will go through the hood. If you have a very low FI intake, such as the stealth ram, you may be able to go with a paxton or vortech, but I would not count on it. I don't think the carb box from vortech will fit. Here is a pic of dad's car posted by someone else.
Chaparral2f
How about some more pics of that z31? I love the zoomies hanging out from under the fender.

Phantom
Look at the ATI procharger. http://www.procharger.com It mounts like an alternator or another accessory driven item. It is intercooled and good for about aq 50% HP boost.

Thanks for the sentiment. I have a few more pics, and need to take a few more. Hopefully, I will have time to post them soon, I have been swamped since SEZS. KiD-ViD
holy shoot that is one badass z31. I bet some people think the hoodscoop is fake too and will race it thinking its some sort of rice car. I would love to see the expression on their face when they see the zoomies spitting fire as the z31 smokes 'em like they are standing still. SEZS was the first time it had been away from home, and we had various problems all day. So the best run was 13.065 @ 104.41. Dad has pretty much fixed the fuel problems we had, and is now looking for the source of the transmission fluid that was on the trailer when we got home, and looking for some shorter tires. We were using 29.5 tires, and they worked well. We did not even do a burnout and never spun a tire. However, on the two best runs, they rubbed the fender well VERY bad, so we are moving down to a 28. Guest SteveR
Shame the guys on Z31.com didn't like the car at all. I partially agree with them just because of the fact that it was an Anniversary Edition. But then those guys are REALLY biased and hardheaded. Overall I really like it. In fact it's a LOT like how I had planned my '86 to be. I just think an AE deserves to be restored.
Mike kZ
I would change that air cleaner on the hood, it looks like it was just bolted on for looks. Build a cowl hood for it, it would look real mean! http://mpmotorsports.net/frame.html look under Hood Scoops
