Help me find some websites

Well, I moved to Mexico and it is all fine and dandy, except for one thing. They won't let me import my Z, and one is not available here. But judging from what I see on the streets, building your own car is perfectly acceptable. Now this puts me back to where I was before getting into Z's, I wanted to build my own car.

I'm thinking something with a backbone frame (ie. trans. tunnel doubles as the main framestructure) and looks, similar to a Lotus super 7. Motor would be a nicely built 383 with around 425 to 450 hp.

What I need now is to find sites with similar buildups for street or race. I also need sites with chassis parts like spindles, brakes etc.

If you know of any sites like that please post..

Thanks in advance

Thure

One of my dreams is to build a kit car. Here are a few of my favorites, nothing that looks like a 7, but...:

Ultima GTR

http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/gtr/

Dragon

http://dragonmotorcars.com/order_form.html

FFR Spyder GT

http://factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/spyder/spyder.html

Now sure you probably can't afford the Ultima, but one can dream. :-D

Here is a link to KitCars.com

http://www.kitcars.com/

Hope these links give you some ideas.

If you are interested in building a Lotus 7 look-alike from scratch, get Ron Champion's book titled Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as 250 Pounds & Race It! '7' cars aren't very practical for every day use but since they are nearly all engine, the fun factor is very high.

Some Lotus 7 look-alike sites include:

These type of cars are extremely popular in Britain.

The other end of the kit car field often involves building Cobra look-alikes such as Factory Five Racing. The Cobra market is gigantic and you can build any level of car, from scratch up to $50,000 and beyond ‘turn key’ cars.

( http://www.factoryfive.com/index.html ). Just for grins, check out their new car (still in development) at http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/GTM/GTMkit.html

That should get you started.

My favorite lotus inspired car is the Diva roadster..

Unfortunately it looks like their site http://www.divaroadster.com was somehow taken over by a restaurant... :? probably some wierd DNS error.

Anyways, they look like this:

http://www.bobsclassics.com/98d.htm

Edit: BTW, that site shows a price for that car that is only about double what the Diva company charges for a turnkey. A roller is only like $6000.

55/45 weight distro with a SBC if I remember correctly. Weighs in at about 2000lbs.

I plan to make something like that in the future, I want to make a single seat one powered by a motorcycle engine.

have you seen one of those Lola Mk kits? there tubeframe cars that are molded exactly from the ones raced in LeMans. coooool :D

LIIIIIIIIINK, please  (did'nt mean to yell at you though)

Thanks everybody, not really looking for kitcars though. Would really like to build stiff lightweight car with optimized suspension and really big brakes and motor. Trying for that as fast as a motorcycle feel, with some of the advantages as a car.

Does anybody have thoughts on necessary groundclearance/rideheight, and suspension travel?

And, does anybody have a "free" program, fully functional, for designing suspension, and suspension geometry.

Again thanks for all the replies.

Thure
