Lostsol
Anybody have a rough idea of how much it would cost to get one running in a 240z? What shops in northern cali can do this or have done this? if you guys have phone numbers that would be helpful. thanks

240zprace
do it yourself.....less expensive
Lostsol
I would do it myself if I was more skillful like a lot the guys on this board. The only motor swap Ive done myself is a honda swap, but I didnt do the wiring. That would also be my concern with the l28et, the wiring. fl327
mechanical part of turbo swap is a bolt in, easier than a honda swap. wiring is a different story though...
Guest r0dzill4
does the l28et drop right into the 240z?
zguy95135
You'll also need to get a fuel tank and fuel system off of a injected 280Z. Plus a 280zxt fuel pump
Guest bastaad525
You'll also need to get a fuel tank and fuel system off of a injected 280Z. Plus a 280zxt fuel pump Not exactly true. This IS the better way to go but it's not 100% necessary. I've been running the stock 240 fuel tank for some time with NO problems whatsoever. You wouldn't want the fuel system from a 280z, you want pretty much the entire EFI from a 280zxt, preferably the same year as the car you got the motor from if you're not getting the motor complete with it's original setup. Even the same year thing is not a necessity though, I'm running an '81 motor with '82 efi. Among the EFI components though you will want same year stuff... an '82 air flow meter, for instance, will not work with an '83 ecu. The motor swap itself nearly a cakewalk as far as these kinds of things go. The motor drops right in, the only things you have to fuss with at all are figuring how you want to position the intake and AFM (not a lot of room), and getting a new exhaust made. Oh and rearranging or making some new fuel lines. I've had my full motor out and back in, with the help of a friend, in the space of one day. While I didn't do the wiring originally myself, I have been over just about every inch of the wiring in mine since having it (figuring it out, tracking down bugs, rearranging things to make it cleaner, etc.), and after paying someone $600 to wire it for me, I got pretty pissed when I realized that there were all of about 6 wires that had to be spliced from the ZXT's wiring harness into the 240's harness, it's like, power, key on, fuel pump, one relay, some fusible links... really not much. Other than that the ZXT harness is pretty self contained and you dont have to futz with it. I really don't see it being $600 worth of labor that's for sure. But you know... you pay for the KNOWLEDGE I guess. Which if you hang around here long enough and do enough diggin with the search engine you can have that for free. I would guess, once you knew what had to be spliced where, you could probably wire it all in in a day. Cost will really depend how much you get your stuff for and how much you do yourself vs. paying others to do. I spent initially about $2600, this was buying a full 280zxt donor car, and paying someone else for much of the labor, which included swapping the entire drivetrain (trans and diff) and the aforementioned wiring. You could get away with a lot less $$$ spent if you do the labor yourself and just buy an engine and EFI vs. the whole car (though most would agree, it's easier to buy the whole car if you can). evildky
check for all the wiring info in the turbo section, it's stickied to the top of the page, I have a 1K 240z, and bought an 83 totalled 280ZXT from a junk yard, that was the only cols involved in the swap, I later added a fuel sump, bigger pump boost controller etc, you can't beat it fot the buck, if you can do it yourself, it's really not that bad only a few wires to be run
