Headers for a 93 LT1??? Where can I get them?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering where I can get some chrome headers for my 93 LT1. I have a ZX so I would assume that they would need to be hooker headers? weird.gif I cant find any for the LT1's though can someone give me a website or company that sells them?

Thanks a lot guys! :D:D

a company called street & performance makes good shorty or sanderson headers.lt1 has d shaped ports.best to talk to somebody that has done a zx.long tube headers are better if possable.street& performance makes perts for the street rod crowd.they specialize in efi motor swaps.

Jay,

That's interesting because I remember reading the footnote on those headers that they won't fit angle plug heads?

Do they give you adequate clearance for the plugs/plug wires? If that's the case, then i'm sold!!! I'm tired of the header issue now and am willing to settle for "less than ideal" at this point.

Thanks,

Tim

80LT1,

I've got a 93 lt-1 in my 73. I have the hooker block hugger headers from summit with the ceramic coating. They are close on the plugs but plugs can be changed. Used lt-1 plug wires from street and performance.

Yes the Lt1 has D shaped ports. But the typical hooker 2100 headers do fit quite well. Some intelligent epoxy (or welding) and grinding in the header ports will match them up with your heads. My dad had his altered and they're working and sealing very well. I'm presently using/working towards using the same headers in my ZX on my rpm heads. I've had wedges made to bring out my collector. As well one side of my 'wedges' now has a square (older rpms, yes square, new 6089 rpm's are not square)port and transitions to the oval of the hooker headers (I don't think their oval realy fits much of anything!)

Ceramic coating seems to be doing well. As for the part number I have no clue. Just opened to the header page, hooker block huggers with coating. Headers have sealed well to heads with no mods even though ports are different shape. Mark

Ideally ports would match. Only so many parts we have to choose from. I'm content with a close match and more concerned with a GREAT seal. Setting up sbc's is all give and take. But I really like playing with a motor that a 'non-ideal' action/part may only cost 10-15hp that I'll never feel as it's all enjoyable excess anyhow (IMHO). My ports will match very close, I'm quite picky on some items, so when I say it's a non-match it's not that it's horribly off.

Actually, I've read Vizard's book on porting SBC heads, and his latest article in Grass Roots Motorsports magazine where he says a bit of a step at the BOTTOM of the exhaust port into the header pipe actually can help keep some reversion at bay.

Give the parts guys a call @ 1-800-748-3791. They are helpful and can make sure you get the right ones. They can also give you the phone # if the Heddman warranty department if you go with ceramic and need a recoat on the drivers' side. The part# for my application (Fastburn 385) is HD685096. The price was $300.00 in April 2001.

The combination of angle plugs and D shape ports are make header selection a pain in the *#%$. I dropped my motor in my 78 280z last weekend. I am still trying to find a decent set of headers as well as a set of accessory brackets for the A/C and Altenator. Once I figure those last two things out, I can pulled the motor back out, detail the engine bay and paint the car.

I have ordered a set of headers (custom made) from a guy who made them for a 350 sbc into a Jag XJS. They look very promising....1 3/4 primaries, 2 1/2 collector. They do fit, according to the guy, angle plugs and fit tight to the block. The 'D' shape port is still a problem, but not insurmountable. I should have them early next week. I will let you guys know if and how the fit.

He said I can send them back if I'm not satisfied, so I'll only be out the shipping charges.

Pete, enjoyable as always ;) I have ported the head side of my wedge slightly oversize (25 thou?, haven't touched them in a week or so, been to busy). Just not enough time to type in all the details in these web posts. I've read similarly as yourself for some time now that a slight oversize their aids a bit of a 'spillover' (mild turbulence inducing)to help combat reversion as you say and can aid some scavenging. Do you recall a physical quantity/scale on that oversize?

I'm not getting too caught up in it as I know it'll be a huge change over present setup so should be quite an eyeopener for myself. Had a nice drag with a Honda 600 'zf?' this am. At the next light about a 1/2 mile down we were stopped. He flipped up his visor/tilted his helmet and only uttered "That car is quick!". Closed his helmet and off we went again :D

Some days I arrive at work with bigger grins than others cheers.gif
