JMortensen
No, it is a viscous LSD in the '88 SE. IMO, the clutch style gives better traction since the VLSD needs to start slipping before it does anything, but the VLSD will be smoother and won't affect turn in as much. Supposedly you can tune the VLSD to be more aggressive by changing the fluid in the VLSD unit itself, I've never tried it but that's what I hear. RB26powered74zcar
I've ran both, clutch pack, and now 88se VLSD, and I have to say I like the VLSD way better. It's quiot (sp) and smooth. And so far I haven't noticed any slippage at all under any conditions....
datsunlover
I had a VLSD in my 85 200sx and it was great. It was awsome for traction in the winter! Take off in first, one wheel spins for a sec, it would turn the car a bit, then both would kick in. Just had to be carefull which way the car was going at that point, cause when it got hook-up, it took off which ever way the nose was pointed!
