I park my car across the street in front of some guy's house. There's a t-bird with ghetto bling bling rims parked in front of his driveway (his daughter, I think) blocking the path. I park legally, within 18" from the curb, not blocking any access to/from his driveway (the ghetto ho took care of that). I've been parked there maybe 15 minutes, we walk out to go get the motor, and I stop by my car to pick up some tools. As I'm closing the trunk, this slackjawed hick with half of his teeth missing, and half pleading for a quick death, comes up to me. "Hey man, you can't park here. It's my spot." me, not wanting issues from someone who's probably his own uncle, reply with "Do you want me to move my car?" "Nah man, but that's my spot. It's in front of my house" ok. now what? I offerred to move my car, he declined my offer, but he's being a [drunk] shit about it. me: "Well, it's a public street. I'm legally parked and I am not obstructing any of your entry ways and access points" pause. use of more than 1 syllable words apparently hinders his ability to process responses in a timely fashion. him: "Well, uh... y'all gonna be parked here for long?" me: "no, I'm going to pick up a motor, and I'm going to be gone by 8" him: "Oh, well, y'all parked in mah spot. That's where I park my truck" Ok, if he's here... and I'm not intoxicated... where's his truck? Oh, right. Not there. me: "As I said, it's a public street, I'm going to be gone before 8pm anyway, and you don't have your truck here. I offerred to move my car, you declined, now you're giving me shit for parking there, yet you don't want me to move. Your call" him: "oh, ok. I was worried you were going to leave it here overnight" BFD! I've done it before, it's a ******* public street. I'm not sure if he was in drunked stupor or sober, I sure as hell couldn't tell. My folks live accross the street from two police officers(married, living in the same house). I parked in front of their house, the guy comes out and says i cannot park there, because he wants to move is cruiser into that spot. I told him i was having dinner with my folks and i'd move it when done eating, adding on that it is a public street and regardless of his status as a cop, i dont have to move anything. he stormed off i guess grumpy that i didn't listen to him. I guess it is good to put a cop in their place when they get going on power trips. I didnt get a ticket, and he parked his car right behind mine heheh. I guess here in Georgia we do not have that problem. I have owned two houses now and have never had a problem with my neighbors parking in front of my house. Most people who are buying rather than renting are a little picky about these sorts of things. Especially when you could have easily parked in front of your friends or parents house to begin with. If at all possible it is always better to park in the driveway rather than on the "public street" anyway. Just my two cents as a homeowner and redneck Yep a redneck policeman to boot. I figure that most of us here can be called a redneck by someone. Answer these questions: Do you have a car in your yard on jack stands? Do you have an engine on a stand in your only garage or car port? Do you paint your car in your only garage, carport, or yard? Do you invite friends over to drink a beer and work on the car? auxilary Posted March 8, 2004 Author Share Posted March 8, 2004 My friend lives in a town home that he rents, so he has a garage that contains his rx7, his mustang that is parked right outside the garage (there's no driveway, just a small court that people drive on). So the only other options are to park on the street. The street adjacent to him had rows of cars going all the way up the block. There were a few spots across the street, so I parked there. You also seem to forget that I *DID* ask him if he wanted me to move my car. He declined. The rest is his problem. Has has a driveway that had an empty spot in it, and a car (not mine) blocking the access to the driveway. Tell me where the common sense is. All to often I have to hear of folks cop bashing especially when it seems like they got one up on them. When I was younger I could not stand the police, I hated them. Now that I have been doing the job for close to 15 years I see them in a different light. Listen folks, cops are people just like you and the idiot that Aux dealt with. They are not robots keep that in mind. There are good ones and bad ones and I have to admit that there are a few that should have done something else with there lives instead of becoming a police officer. I know because I work with a few of them now! But having said that, there are smart a$$es and idiots in ALL professions...ALL. I know that there are some neighborhoods where you have to park on the street and it must be a pain in the butt. It's because of how the houses are built these days practically one on top of the other with short dingy drive ways if you can call them that. Phantom Posted March 8, 2004 Share Posted March 8, 2004 I once had a neighbor that got so pissed about my sons friend parking, barely, in front of one corner of his property - 30' from mailbox and around the corner from his driveway, that he called the cops on him twice. THe second time the cop told him he would get the ticket if he called again about a legally parked vehicle. Then he put roofing nails out in the spot where the kid usually parked - on a public street!!! where little kids were riding bikes, etc. What a moron! My truck, and a friends car would take care of that.. so when I had ppl over, someone would block the end of my drive, and others would park in front of the house nextdoor.(not blocking his driveway though) Wow.. that bitter farkwad of an old frenchman next door ever get IRATE! "Holy lord.. I never seen so many cars parked here.. why you gota park in front of my house anyway?!? I'm gona call the by-law! Raghwrwaskhsjfha;so!" He'd tell me to park on the other side of my driveway. Yah. Block in the tenant upstairs from me, obstruct the FIRE hydrant... sure. This guy actually B!tched at me for shoveling the snow out of my driveway, because it was gona get pushed into his driveway when the plow truck came by. (he owned two snowblowers BTW!) Told me if I kept up shoveling that way, he'd get his snowblower and 'Put it all back in my drive'. Some ppl are just A$$holes who have no other purpose on this planet than to piss US off! Sounds like you pi$$ed him off lol I used to live in a duplex and the landlord would not allow you to park in the street even in front of your own house. She would leave you snooty notes on the door or worse stop by or call. She did this once when my company was still there. Some of the areas that I have lived in were really limited for parking, so most of us had our spots on the street where we would park regularly. Not because I've never parked in front of peoples houses, it's just never happened. I must say though, that I applaud the way you guys have handled yourselves, I myself am fortunate not to find myself in that predicament, I'm usually not the friendliest person when dealing ignorance. Jwink25 Posted March 12, 2004 Share Posted March 12, 2004 Dude almighty...you guys need to meet my neighbor. She is...well, one mean old lady. Everytime I have friends over she calls the cops. Its almost a town joke now. We dont have wild or loud parties or anything like that. And if anyone parked in front of her house...it was trouble. It got so bad that now I have them park in the yard. Those with trucks that is. The cops kept showing up and "asking" me to move the car. There was really never more than one in front of her house at one time. Right next to my driveway. After the cops showed up for the um-teenth time they started chatting and hanging out with us for a bit. Guess cops like X-Box too! Ha ha. The old lady finaly figured out that the local cops would'nt do anything about it so then she called the Sheriff. Not sure about this...but how can a sheriff tell me to move a car when its legally parked, and in city limits too. Maybe she knew him or something. I have never harassed this woman or have been anything but nice to her. All I get are police on my door from her. I have no other complaints from any of my neighbors at all. In fact..the old lady on my other side likes my really well. Not sure what the other woman's problem is. Well, one good thing about this is that I made some new friends...its good to know a few cops. You should have seen the look on my neighbor's face when I bought the primer grey Camaro just to harvest the 350 engine. In my driveway no less. I had to assure him that the car parked under the tree in my yard leaking fluids whith no engine ane the hood laying across the top was only temporary.
