hey guys.. on my way to school this morning at 5am driving my ranger, it was in 5th gear, and to even keep up to speed you have to keep it pretty much floored.. well while driving it all of a sudden it felt to lose speed so i pulled in a parking lot.. well it stalled out. so i started it again and it ran fine. put it in gear, let off the clutch and again it stalled out.

so now i think its out of gas (the gas gauge is broke but i was coming close to how many miles i can run on a tank of gas). so i call a tow truck and he gives me 3 bucks worth of gas, puts it in and he drives off. i then start it and it runs fine, and when i put it in gear it stalls out.

now i can hear my fuel pump working and or whining..

what you guys think it is?

fuel pump?

or think i should just fill the tank up and see if it just needs more then 3 bucks worth?

thanks

mike

what motor do you have? 4.0? I have a 94 explorer that was loosing power at hwy speeds, and it ended up beeing the EGR Vacume solinoid and the EGR Vacume sensor. Weird huh? My engine light was on too, hope that helps? It did die a couple of times, like yours, and if i floored the truck it would reset whatever problem it was having and full power would come back.

no its the 2.3 4-banger...

i no its not the EGR, if u floor it or half gas it it stalls out.. it has to be something with the fuel system.

i never had a fuel pump go out on me so i dunno if thats it.

i hope bank of american dont mind me working on the truck tonight lol..

My boss has an 87 with the 2.3 L engine. What a discusting pig of a motor! His is always doing similar things... But the local garage can't figure it out. Hmm.. it starts and idles fine? I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with the ignition/advance system.. but check the fuel filter first.. has it got the distributor? or is it coil pack/electronic or something?

Fords are notorious for the modules heating up and not working on the V8's and V6's I think, not sure about the 4 cyl. You let the car sit for 1/2 hour, then it runs fine. Drive around a little, and it dies again. That sounds like datsunlover's boss's problem.
