Ever driven a ...GEO?

Well, i had to bite the bullet so to speak today. I needed a beater vehicle, and the best one i could find was a 93' Geo Tracker. $500 later, it was mine and i was crusing around. The thing is kinda fun for being a lifted-go kart (80HP~!!). Although some friends of mine made fun of it for being a "chick" car. Anyone on this site ever drive a Geo, or much less admit to owning one? The only thing wrong with the truck is the "lightish red" letters on the side, but those will go soon enough. Hopefully now i can move on to a Z after this :-D

My GF wants one of those trackers. I have never driven one, but I have gone for a ride in one before. Not too shabby. If you think that's bad, today I was actually admiring the body lines of a Geo prism(?) (the one shaped kinda like a civic). I thought it would be fun to do a swap with it... talk about a sleeper :-D

ooo, put an 8" lift on it and 34" tires. My Dad and I saw a suzuki samurai setup like that before and it was funny as could be. He came up to a signal light too quick and was trying to stop and the back tire were hopping and he just about rolled it forward. (a 18-wheeler probably could have stopped in the same situation without any trouble, so it wasnt like he had to hit the brakes that hard)

From the Simpsons, "...can't this thing go any faster? NO, IT'S A GEO!" :)

A old girlfriend had a Tracker, man what a P.O.S.. Other than the engine, everything else on the lifted go cart was of poor quality, but I'll give it to 'em, the dang thing got you from A to B. I remember when I first started seeing this chick, she stopped by with it and I asked if I could drive it for two reasons. 1- I wanted to see what this thing was like, since I've never driven one and 2- I hardly ever get into a vehicle when a woman is driving. So, I'm getting onto the feeway and I tape it... hmmm wasn't increasing forward momentum, but the RPM's were sure increasing. I then found out she needed a new clutch. The original clutch with 100K miles on the clock just couldn't handle the power house that lurked under the hood.

!M!

Samurais make awesome off-roaders, kind of like the Japanese equivalent of a Jeep. I've thought about buying one several times just to take mudding. Theres a company out there that makes Chevy 4.3 V6 conversions for them, even with the stock drivetrain they are great in the mud with bigger tires, I've seen as big as 44"s on them. I've also seen several Samurai rock crawlers out west.

my buddy is big into jeeps and jeep forums. all those guys talk about how gay trackers are, but then dream of taking one swaping a bigger engine in and turning it into a monster truck. As most wheelers know, high centering your vehicle is a great way to f*ck it up badly, so somehting like a samurai or tracker makes that less possible having a shorter body. i think people who build up trackers and samurai's are hilarious.

add on....

my exhad a geo prism, hilarious, she wrecked it and sold it to me and my freind for 100 bucks. The frame was bent, so instead of doing a clean fix, we tied it to a tree and slamed in in reverse until the frame was pulled out enough to drive again. best car to beat on. had a five speed and emergency brake. It was great until we rolled it in a city going around a corner at 40 with the ebrake. luckily nobody was injured. It was awesome. best 50 dollars i ever spent on raising hell in a POS.

Hey now.....none of this tracker bashing. We had a 93 (PINK, nonetheless) until this summer. We also have a 99, and quite frankly the 93 is faster-less weight to haul around. Both of ours are 2 door, 4WD, 5 speed convertable's w/ a removable hardtop. They're actually a lot of fun around town (or anywhere else that requires minimal acceleration). Also, these things are warriors off-road. We put that Tracker through hell and it always came out just fine. Enjoy it, and also try not to roll it- they're quite topheavy.

HEY!!! I just bought my WIFE a GEO!!! A '94 Prizm. It's actually just a rebadged Corolla with different headlights and taillights. Even the interior is EXACTLY the same. Anyways, it's a great little car, came with power everything, 4 speed auto, CD player, ABS, two airbags, AC, and the stronger 1.8L engine (vs the 1.6), with 100k miles for $2500. We both think it's a GREAT car, and it's pretty peppy as well, actually felt a lot more torquey than I would have expected. It's not fast but it's definately not the slowest thing I've ever driven either, and it's actually faster than my wifes '89 Prelude 2.0 Si (also a 4 speed auto). I was actually very happy and a bit surprised by how well it pulled up our local hill (the 405 freeway south over the sepulveda pass) holding 80mph all the way w/o having to floor it. And it get's great mileage to boot.

I had to reply to this. I'm in the exact same position. I have an 89 tracker the girls do seem to like them, especially riding in the back with the top down. I should be picking up my 280zx tomorrow if everything goes alright. It'll be nice to have something with power even though I have to admit the tracker is kinda fun to drive.

We have had three of them. The first one we put 275k miles on it with only a clutch change (at 175k). My son (6'4, 215lb Marine) loved that car. He could go ANYWHERE with that car. He has driven through mud half way up the doors. We took it to Silver Lake (local sand dunes) one time. Found a hill with two trucks trying to climb. A V-8 Dakota and a short box Chevy 4 wheel, jacked up with big tires. They could only make it about 3/4 of the way up. They freaked when this little tracker with four people climbed up and over the top.
