Guest gbvol54
I'm looking for valve covers for my Vortec heads. Are all center bolt covers the same (as far as fitment). Some are listed with restricted years. Don't all '86 and later Chevy heads use a 'center bolt' cover?
Guest the_dj
If so I have a set of late model GM centerbolts, black, in perfect condition. You can have them for...say....$6.31 plus shipping. Sam
RPMS
If you're looking for aftermarket valve covers, good luck. There's a real dearth of good looking aftermarket covers out there. Edelbrock makes a decent pair, but they're something like $125 a set. Chevrolet makes adapter plates that will allow use of the earlier style valve covers on a centerbolt head, but they're also well over $100 a pair. You'd have to have a really incredible set of perimeter bolted valve covers that you just HAD to use to justify that sort of extra expense. danc
gbvol54: The Aluminum version (Fastburn) of the Vortec heads comes pre-drilled for pre and post 86 valve covers, and also drilled for the standard SBC intake manifolds. The Vortec iron heads are not pre-drilled for either. (at least the ones I've seen). Dan
A. G. Olphart
It gets worse. What does a person with cast iron Vortec heads do for tall covers (as required by roller rockers)?
Mike C
The Crane self-aligning roller rockers fit under the stock covers fine on my LT1. Not sure on Vortec but don't see why it would be different. Check out eBay where you can get a polished aluminum center bolt cover for ~$100. Mudge
The only rockers that you will have to mod the covers with to fit are the non-SA setup, since they are wider. Usually you will crimp and grind to get them to fit, some people actually cut the supports but that would not be recommended since the valve covers will want to collapse on themselves and leak.
