Guest ON3GO Posted May 12, 2004 Share Posted May 12, 2004 hey guys looking at some wheels for my blue Z.. kinda had the money to buy some but i lost my job so im really just looking now but i had one small question. if i want to run some 15inch wheels kinda close to the stock fender lip what offset should i get for front and back? im looking at wheels in sizes of 15x7 and 15x8.. thanks Mike Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nullbound Posted May 12, 2004 Share Posted May 12, 2004 u should be able to use 3.5" backspacing for the fronts and 4.5" backspacing for the rears to be on the lip. depending on tire size and ride height, you may also have to roll the rear fender lips. good luck with the car and with new job prospects. DaleMX Posted May 12, 2004 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Are you sure of that, I know my stock 280Z front wheels have a 4" offset on them, so if he used a 3.5 it would move the whole thing out an extra .5 inch. Could be wrong, but it just sounds strange, and I have not tried to put different wheels on yet so I'm not really in the know ya know. z-ya Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Any 15x7 with as 4" BS (zero offset) will work fine. I think you can run up to a 4.5" BS max with stock suspension (no coil overs). So in theory you could run a 15x7.5" with a 4.5" BS, and not rub fenders. Try to find that size though, nearly impossible. nullbound Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 the measurements i gave are what i use for my 240... but i wasn't thinking at the time that the front wheels on my 240 are 15x6... they have been off the car now for more than a year and a half... however, i used 15x7s all around on a previously owned 280 and it indeed had 4" BS as dalemx and z-ya pointed out. sorry for the misinformation guys... i wasnt thinking clearly. and 4.5" BS is indeed max on a 240 or 280 with stock suspension (i am thinking clearly at least about that part). the rear weld wheels in the pic in my sig are 15x8 with 4.5" BS. Phantom Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 A lot depends on the tire size. 15x7's with 3.5" back space and 205/60-15 tires will work perfectly both front and rear. Might even get away with 215's but somewhere around there they will start to rub the inside edge of the rear wheel well lip. If you go to 4" backspacing front and rear on the 7" rims you have to worry about the suspension on the inside. Again it wil be fine with the 205's and maybe the 215's but will be very close with 225's. Time to measure what is there and do some calculations. Guest ON3GO Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 body is 100% stock.. suspension is 100% stock. plan was to get some wheels to work with my ZG flares im not using on my green Z.. thats if Juan (V8dats) doesnt buy them. but i cant really find any so ive been looking at wheels for the stock body Z.. ill roll my fender lip abit if i need so, and i kinda want to run 225's or 235's on the car.. i have 215's now and it looks silly i think.. mike Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If a 4.5" offset was used and it was a little too close to the suspension then it could be shimmed out a bit for a lot less money than buying new wheels. I would just route myself a set of 1/8" aluminum spacers and try that. I guess if you had to move out like a 1/2" you could replace the wheel studs, but that sounds like too much work. If a 3.5" offset is used and it hits the fender then the only alternative is to modify the fender or get a different wheel. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

z-ya Posted May 14, 2004 Share Posted May 14, 2004 260DET, Where are you ordering your wheels from? I'm also looking at the BC P1 Racing in a 16x7.5 with +12mm offset. Did you verify that the centerbore will fit a 240Z hub? There is a place in SC that can order them for $280 a piece.
