can anyone help me locate an engine and tranny mount kit for a 1980 datsun 280zx that will mount an ls1 block and a manual transmission? all the kits i find are for a turbo 350 auto tranny or a 700.

You guys really need to leave John alone so he can finish the current projects he is working on. Like my trans crossmember. My car is on jackstands just waiting now for a month. There is not much I can do until John gets me the crossmember. I am now way behind on this project and starting to get frustrated.

John has way too much on his plate right now. 240Z trans.crossmembers for the LS1, Headers for the LS1, add to that the newest request for LS1 Power steering. Please let him finish this stuff first.

Sorry to take it out on any of you but I was told that the parts were in stock and ready to go. After i decide to buy the stuff and send payment, I find out that the trans crossmember wasn't tested on a 240Z, that the headers are not available, A/C on backorder, etc.

WOW Qwik240, You do sound a little frustrated! When I mounted my trans cross member I kind of thought the 240 would be different. Looking at the underside of MAS280'S(240Z) My crossmember would not work. Patience is a vurtue my man! John has been wonderfull with me and I'm sure he is on top of it!!!!

Hope everone is sitting down. I got an email from John yesterday that told me the guy he has gone to for the headers is out for back surgery the next 6-8 weeks. :bonk:

On the bright side that means he's mostly focused on the trans cross-member and the power steering at this point - when he's not working on his primary Jaguar business or his trains.

Joey,

I am trying to be patient but I am also running out of time. We are planning to convert our existing 2 car attached garage into a mudroom/expansion of the family room and building a new garage. The work is supposed to be started in October. If I don't have the car to a point were it is easily movable by them I will be without a garage (and a place to work on it) for my rust free Z for the winter.(east Coast)

Not to mention that my wife will not let "any stupid, old Datsun" slow down the progress on our remodeling project. She wanted to sart it this spring but I convinced her to wait until October. Now you might understand my frustration.

Before I made the purchase of the JCI stuff, I spoke to John and addressed the issue of the trans tunnel on the 240Z being different from the 280Z and he assured me there wasn't a problem. He has been great with me too, so far but as he keeps taking on more stuff the waiting time keeps getting extended.

Hey Dave!! seems we took over this 280zx thread. Anyways. I agree 100% with MAS280, the JTR Trans member will work. Mike Knell is on top of his game(talked to him this week). John will give you a refund. Also do me a favor and let me know the length of your drive shaft, say the length of the tube. The reason I'm asking is my drive shaft was about 6 inches short. John knows about this. I figure I bought my kit in January, sooo the problem has been corrected by the time you got yours. I looked at the shaft for 2 weeks, with no time to escape from work and Drive Line services picking up a customers shaft. I had them take mine and lengthen it. John knows this and offered to compinsate. My Z is at the Muffler shop right now, and I will have it back on monday. Soooo if it takes me till then to get back to you on length. I will and I will add to the JOEY PICS post on the exhaust and my throttle cable!

Maybe try doing some of the leg work yourself.....search the forums and find the info....bottom line is that currently only Johns Cars makes a kit, otherwise you are on your own.....
