Guest Anonymous
Help Anyone I need help does the new chevy motors use the same mounts as the pre 79' motors
fl327
Ls1-all alloy mounts different Lt1-alum head, iron block, some both iron block and heads, mount same.
Mudge
LS1 also gets a composite intake jerks. LT1 is pretty good though, and will cost less to play with, if cost were not a factor I'd be all over an LS6 or something similar. There is a 6.0 truck LS1 with supposedly LS6 capable heads (in terms of ported flow numbers), but an iron block.
80LS1T
Actually putting an LT1 or LT4(96 Vettte motor) in a early Z 70-78 would probably be much easier than putting in a carbed engine. Since the disributer is on the front of the engine behind the harmonic balancer you dont have to move the hood latch. Also you have a much better hood clearance! Though the cost is a little higher, I think in the end it is a much better set up for the early Z's. Plus you get alluminum heads and intake and it's Fuel Injected! Now if you go LS1 or LS6 you are talking some BIG bucks to swap that. Those engines aren't nearly avaliable as the LT1's are. Plus the mounting is different from the old style mounting. However with an all aluminum engine you will probably be close to weight with the L6's or L28', which for most of us that is important. I can't remember the name of the guy who is swaping an LS1 into an early Z but search the Chevy Board for "LS1 Swap" and you should find LOTS of info on that. That's just my $.02! One little nit-pick here- All engine blocks are made out of "alloy". Most are made from an iron alloy like cast iron, while others are made from an aluminum alloy. But it's a mistake to think "alloy" means aluminum, it's doesn't, it just means the material is a mixture of metals.
Top Fuel ZX
A little more work is required to put a LS1 in your z car. You will have to fabricate the mounts, relocate the accessories, wire up the engine properly, new fuel lines, electric fuel pump and fuel regulator. Not to mention new gauges or spend a lot of time hooking up the stock ones . Do a search, there is a lot of information that has been posted. Good luck with your decision. Mudge
Yep, usually the stronger cast iron blocks will tell you thier nickel content % or just tell you 'high nickel content'.
