I'm not 100% sure I"m reading it right but I think I read that this year they aren't going to do as they've done in years past, which is, let every one send in photos and info on their cars, then the SCC editors pick like 100 of them, and then let readers decided who the actual 10 competitors will be.

This year the editors themselves seem to have already picked the 10 competitors for this year, and there wasn't a Z among them. There were TWO Evo's, a miata, an MR2, a 1G DSM, A MK IV supra... I forget the rest. I remember coming away from that article with a bad taste in my mouth... like... this is going to be the least interesting USCC ever.

Every time a vintage datsun has entered (Two previous Datsun 510s), the chief complaints were about how "Rough" the ride was and how "Unrefined" the cars were...

In my opinion, the SCC event is a J-OK-E. They want participants to have a car that has DVD, PS2, 2000 watts of sound system, handles like a Benz on the street (Grandma testride??? ) with Hybrid (Think toyota Prius) economy, and be able to run low 10s in the 1/4 mile while breaking every lap record ever set at Willow or Thunder, or Fontana, or where ever they have the road/ 1/4 mile portion of the event.

A Zcar isn't going to do well in that event, no matter how well appointed, refined or well equipped.

I hate the event, I hate the judging, and I'm unimpressed the writers at SCC...

However, YMMV! :D

I have to agree, I have followed the USCC and come away feeling the same way. Our Z's have a uniqueness and appeal that is their's alone. We just happen to be driving the "original" sport compact car. And no matter who SCC mag says is the ultimate street machine, I would bet we could roll past with a few of our Z's and turn every head there.

Z's are just cool.

the weird thing is their writers/editors very openly profess their love for classic japanese metal.... 510's ranking right at the top of their list (and nabbing their top honors as the original sport compact... hey it did predate the Z), along with 240's and old Corolla's and RX-7's.

Well unless you plan to load all the DVD/ MP3/ Video Screens/ AC and any OTHER creature comforts, no matter how bad the car is in the power department, you will lose for being "Too RAW!"

Which is WHY I personally discount that competition...
