Hitman47
I am not knowledgeable about suspension of the z car I have a 72 240z that soon will have a single turbo`d 351 windsor. I want to get coil overs but do they have springs stiff enough to really support the wieght of a v8 z car? I mean i want it stiff, the best handling that i can get what spring rate or even coil over kit would you guys suggest? Just for the front though because im fabbing in a 9 inch.also is the steering rack strong enoug? basiccally im looking for a full road race syle feel and need to know what stiffness and also coil over kit would be best. JMortensen
Be careful here! You start talking about road racing and people who ACTUALLY road race are going to answer and tell you to put some Konis and some 300 in/lb springs in. That's going to be brutal on the street. For a VERY aggressive street feel I'd go 225 in/lbs with Tokico Illuminas. If you REALLY want road racing stuff, then go with the Konis and a 300 lb spring. IMO that is not streetable. As far as kits go, search and you shall find. Probably http://www.modern-motorsports.com is the most common and very good quality. I think his stuff is the same as http://www.ground-control.com. http://www.arizonazcar.com has some really nice suspension pieces. But search, and you'll find all kinds of info. Drax240z
I run 200/225lb/in F/R on the street/autoX with illumina's. Going with a much higher rate than that and you'll start to not want to drive the car on the street at all. If you want a 'racy' feel, and good handling, this is more than enough. If my car was only a street car that I wanted to feel tight I'd run 175/200 probably.
DaleMX
My 280 is a little heaver than your 240. I will be running a LS1 in mine, so I asked Ross at Modern Motorsports to recommend a coilover for me. Here is what he told me: Dale, I'd suggest 175/225-10's. That's a lot of torque, anything softer in your rear and you'll still have a lot of squat. With 225's you'll still have fine stoplight traction.....if you squat too much your rears camber in and thus greatly reduce effective footprint and thus traction. You not 1/4 mile as preferred event but you want it stiff for handling......not overly similar characteristics but I believe the 175/225 will suit this. The Illumina inserts greatly improve ride comfort and tuneability as you can go soft or stiffer etc depending on your event/trip/preferences. Sounds alot like Jmortsen's recommendation! Tim240z
I was running the LT1-t56 and had 250s up front and 300 out back....ride was quite nice...firm, but comfy...considering.....not like I was expecting it to ride like a Coupe Deville
Guest vizcounty
Im currently using Ground Control coilovers with F=175 and R=225, with adjustable Red Koni struts on the stiffest setting and the ride is stiff. I still need to play around with it and get a better balance. Probably soften the struts.
