Driving habits in your hotrod Z

Just wondering how everyone is when it comes to being behind their Z's. I for one cannot get my lead foot off of the accelerator! There's just something about being behind the wheel of this 19 year old GT car that turns me into a mad man lol. Don't get me wrong...I drive VERY carefully and I don't cut people off or ride their bumpers but give me an open highway and she will see tripple digits very quickly. Now when I get into the family car (olds Alero) it's like nite and day. The fam mobile has some go too but I never get the urge to really get on it even when I'm alone. Anyone else suffering from this? flamedevil.gif Maybe they have a technical term for it or something..... cheers.gif

It's called schizophrenic! My daily driver is a 4x4 Toyota pickup with a 2.4l, very slow. I drive like a granny until I get behind the Z wheel, and I transform to Mr. Hyde. I do obey the speed limits, no more than +15mph over, but only the crazies go faster. Moderate launches, sometimes with a bit of wheelspin - it's really strange, I get nobody that wants to race, but I love the feeling of blood rushing away from my eyeballs (visions of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, eh?) bonk.gif

Horsepower will do that to ya. I drive mine fairly sanely, no huge smokey burnouts, a few minor launches from time to time. Usually though at least once during my drive to I usually end up tipping in the 4 bbls pretty good maybe a blast in 2nd and 3rd a race if its there, but even then, I keep the wheels hooked up pretty much. Its all down to horsepower causing your foot to do that.

Hell my guitar always sounds great turned up through the effects, I know it'll cause me to go deaf at that level (already has to a point), but its addictive like HP is, and well I have a theory it makes you play better... :D (well maybe not, but I guarantee you'll play cleaner because loud mistakes sounds terrible... :D ).

Regards,

Heh; (Interject Barney Fithe sniffle-here), "Ya Just Gotta Blow the Carbon Out Every Now & Then; Ya Know What I Mean?" Now, What did I do with that one bullet Andy gave me earlier? ugg.gif

As for me, whenever I'm driving a car that has competitive power, I've found that I drive very normal (confidant; I guess) yet when I'm behind a car with little power & steep gears to make up for no power-then I drive like a mad-man.

When I had my 70 Cutlass and even when I had my 70 Deuce & a 1/4 I drove those very normal; and what was weird is that I found everyone else was looking to race me. Even tho I wasnt looking for the race-they found me and were egging me on; very weird(?).

For me; when I know I got it-you just know ya got it and I found myself a little more picky as to who I'll flaunt it for.

As for now; I only have an Inliner: so I'm kind've in hybernation for the moment, just try'in to get thru the "Big Mean Ole Wicked City" without the Predators Jump'in me! b_hand.gif

Kevin,

(Yea,Still an Inliner)

Testing 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. I don't care if it is a riding lawnmower, some fellows just have to open it up ........ and test things to make sure things are in working order and blow the cobwebs out.Besides you might forget what all that air rushing to meet that gas vapor sounds like right before the full explosions audibly drown out every sound. Lone .. do you hit those high notes on the guitar before you get serious with the bass?

When I had my 260Z I would open it EVERY single time I got into the driver's seat. With the V8 it'll be even more insane. I plan on running in some drivers schools as well with the car since I'll need to re-educate myself on 'control.'

BTW, for those who want to know, I drive very sanely most of the time, especially in town. Just ask Jon or Auxilary--they'll tell you I'm like grandpa behind the wheel most of the time :D lol

I drive my 260Z like a boring old fart when in traffic, don't bother lane changing to get a few car lengths ahead or anything. Traffic just aggravates me so I try and relax behind the wheel.

However, things change when I find some empty road. I can't help but push the limits a bit when I get into space.

I drive pretty normally, except I have a bad habit of spinning the tires. I really like to get the car moving in first, put my foot on the brake and spool the turbo and get it spinning good, and then bang second so it really spins then.

Of course spinning the drag ta's is a lot of fun. They leave nice black marks.

I also cut no slack on the interstate and if I want to go around somebody, I just leave it in 5th and boost it a little, and it is bye bye time. Of course 3.90's make it wind a little, but thats all part of the fun.

When I go to the street races, I drive vary sanely, although every once in a while it is nice to get sideways in second as the boost comes up and a bunch of ricers are watching. It is kind of like if you could get your Honda to do that without hitting the curb, I would be impressed.

:D

Burning rubber is so much fun.

i dont drive mines nearly as tough as i used to, but i often drive 10mph above speed limits, but i try to keep the secondariies closed when im not going full tilt except in residential or any 15-25mph zone, i will lay down the rubber at the drop of a hat, and i have perfected the art of doughnuts with the stock r200, you gotta charge it and do em in second gear.....

once im done with my summer stuff im let the rubber fly and perfect my track launch technique. these cars are fantastic.

I love driving around town at the speed limit 1200 to 2000 RPM. I'll see a policman or two taking a peek at the Z, wishing I was speeding or better yet racing, but I'm just crusing along. But don't let some LS1 powered car, or Mustang GT try to make a move on me, or I'll be gone!!! It's nice knowing you about the fastest thing out their. Zero to sixty in 3.8 sec, what a rush! I Don't even bother with lesser cars, unless they are just real persistant about getting waxed. 2thumbs.gif LS1 powered 240Z no need to wait on boost, it's always ready.

Three years ago I got arrested for going 170+ on HWY 5 (Going to Woodland from Sacramento). Several thousand $$ later I just had to give up the bike as I could not make myself cruise under triple digits on the thing.

RickS, I know what you mean about bikes. I found myself doing 155mph on my Honda Sabre 1100 (naked bike) and it was still pulling hard, but a red Jeep Cherokee pulled into my lane and had to hit the binders... I always have wondered how fast I would have gone if that person didn't change into my lane. I have since crashed the bike, so I'll never know... on that bike. I once made it to Madison from Milwaukee in 20 minutes on that bike, it usually takes 50 minutes at average speeds. The guy I bought the bike from had the dyno sheet from it, 125hp 127ft.lbs, but it weighed in at 600lbs. with me on it. In my Z (when it's running), I always have to feel the acceleration of my car, there is just something that is addictive about being thrown back into your seat.

!M!
